[6112] History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, FHL 941.49 H2m, v 1, p 350 states: "On the 15th October 1605, Alexander Mure was served heir to his brother John, styled of Cotland, but whether High or Low, is not stated." V 4, p 271 states: "All this, however, does not clear up the degree of relationship between Archibald Mure, who must have died in 1543 [leaving three daughters as heirs], and John Mure found by us in possession of Cassencary in 1586. They may have been brothers, or John the nephew of Archibald." Editors have chosen to add John as a brother to that Archibald, but -- because of the years involved and the information first above -- have added another John as child of Archibald and brother of Alexander.
