History of the Lands and Their Owners in Galloway, FHL 941.49 H2m 1994 v. 4, p 76; v. 3, P 168 states: "He [James M'Ghie] was followed by Alexander M'Ghie, who had sasine on the 26th June 1707, but whether or not his son we cannot tell. It is more than probable he was. He married Florence Maxwell, daughter of John Maxwell of Arkland, parish of Kelton. A sasine intimating this, dated 26th Jun 1707, mentions Marie Cannon, relict of John Maxwell of Arkland, and Florence, his daughter, spouse to Alexander M'Ghie of Airie, of ane liferent provision furth of the lands of (Cullquahassan) and Airie, &c."
Book of Mackay p 350 gives his marriage to Anna Fullarton 29 Dec 1703 and to Florence Maxwell 15 Nov 1705 from Dumfries Sassines. It also states that Alexander was the son of the latter marriage. However, this is impossible, since Alexander was married to Elizabeth Gordon before she received sasine as heir of her father Robert Gordon 22 Jul 1715. Hence, editors have added an earlier marriage to Alexander by which he had his son Alexander.
