Book of McKee, pg 119, excerpted from "David McKee and Descendants"
David had a lease 1769 of Carricknaveagh - listed in rent of Downshire Estate D/671/R7/1 in which he names John (possibly his son) or Blair, William Blair age 40 and John Blair age 38. It is likely these were his brothers-in-law, and his wife was Miss Blair.
Rental of Castlereagh Estate D/671/R4/1 (PRONI) 1801 lists David McKee Lease 1769 with John [his brother?]; Wm Blair 40, John B 38
Copy of booklet from Frank Fox, 229 Belfast Road, Ballynahinch, county Down, No Ireland BT248UP states: "Of these [four known sons of James] the one most prominent in local history was David, who got a grant of land from the Marquis of Downshire in the townland of Carricknaveagh, on which he built a house known as Moor Hall "on the south side of the Lisburn road about two minutes' walk from the Temple toward Lisburn." He was known to fame as "Big Davie of the Temple." He dealt in cattle, going up the country and buying a drove which he would take to Scotland and sell. Big Davie and his May-pole were known and respected in every cattle market in the north of Ireland. His encounters were more numerous than those of Con of the Hundred Battles or of Little John and his crab-tree, and yet they all, without a single exception, ended in a way favorable to himself. When still quite a young man his reputation wa such that no one was willing to meet him in a pugilistic encounter. Upon receiving a challenge to fight a man with a shillalah, the Irish national weapon, he immediately began the practice of that arm, and wa soon able to overcome his challenger. Ever afterwards he carried his stick with him..."
Deputy Court Cheque Book Downe May 1790 D654/A3/1B lists at Carricknavea David Makee - 23 Oct 1783, John Magee 23 Oct 1783, Hans Magee 3 Dec 1788
