Book of Mackay pg 305; appointed Committee of War for the shire of Sutherland by Scots Parliament 1648; accompanied 2nd Lord Reay at Balveny; resigned his estate/gave a charter to his son in 1649; gave a bond to his brother in 12 May 1643; paid Murray 1,000 merks for BigHouse or Strathhalladay
Blackcastle, p 122 states William had a sasine on a Precept of Clare Constat as heir to Angus Mackay of Bighouse his father, dated 27th April 1640.
Blackcastle, p 105 states Wiklliam had a Charter of Confirmation under the Great Seal of King Charles I, "Willielmo Mackay filio Anguail Mackay de Bighouse, terrarum de Bighouse" &c. dated 9th Nov 1633. He married Jean, dau of John Mackay of Dilred, afterwards designed of Strathy.
