FHL - "The Book of McKee," pg 271 - pedigree from William Skene, D.C.L., LL.D., Historiographer-Royal of Scotland, in "Celtic Scotland," Edinburgh 1890; The Kings of Scotland from The Book of McKee, pg 409 states that he left the throne in 1054; "Robert the Bruce, King of Scots," by Ronald McNair Scott www.parsonstech.com/genealogy states he was the 17th King of Scotland and reigned from 1040-1057. He was a cousin of Duncan I and grandson of Kenneth II. He was killed in a battle against Malcolm III. He was King of Alba. MacBeth mac Findleach succeeded his cousin Gillacomgain as Mormaer of Moray in 1032. He slew his cousin King Duncan I on 14 Aug 1040. He left no issue. On the Day of the Seven Sleepers (July 27, 1054), all of MacBeth's Norman knights perished in battle at Dunsinane, Perthshire against forces of Siward, Earl of Northumbria. These "castle-men" (so named because of their unprecedented building of castles along the Welsh border of Herefordshire) had been driven from Herefordshire in 1052. Gruoch, his wife, was formerly married to Gillacomgain.
Skye's Scottish Origins, Ch. 3 members.aol.com/Skyelander/mediev20.html states: Under MacBeth, north and south Scotland were united...[he] appears, contrary to popular belief, to have been a wise monarch who ruled Scotland successfully for seventeen prosperous years...One of Duncan's sons, Malcolm (known as Ceanmor or Canmore, meaning "big head"), who was brought up in exile in England, raised an army (with English help), invaded Scotland and reached deep into Aberdeenshire. At the battle of Lumphanan, he defeated MacBeth, who was slain in battle..."
