Balmaclellan Graveyard Inscriptions state: "______ Maria_____ spouse of the Rev William McKie, minister of the Gospel in Balmaclellan who died Nov'r 23 1770. Also the remains of the said Rev William McKie who died June 18th 1779 in the 61st year of his age and 33rd of his ministry. The man of God is willing did with virtue bright and shining as the ___ the dear ____ his son the Rev Nathaniel McKie the minister of this Parish who died on the 11th Oct 1790 in the 33rd year of his age and 10th of his ministry, his sensibility of heart is exemplary pity and benevolence his ability--his friends the people of this parish, the poor who were, within his influence and all to whom was known."
