[5188] The Book of Mackay, pg. 317; of the H.E.I.C.; Blackcastle, p 130 states "He was actively engaged in the Burmese War against the King of Ava, from which his health suffered severely, and he died at Calcutta 17th January 1827, before he had fully attained the age of twenty one. He was a young man of great talent and gave the fairest promise of becoming an honour to his family and an ornament to his profession." His maternal Uncle Colonel Dunlop was in the same Regiment and wrote: "He had made considerable progress in both the Persian and Hindostanee languages. He wrote a great deal beside his correspondence, which appears to have been extensive. He was in the constant habit of translating a good deal from these languages into English and making extracts from all the works he read."
