GREER (GRIERSON, etc) and related families
Our ancestral Greer family connected into the pedigree through two sisters, Isabel and Nancy Greer, daughters of John Greer of Magheragal, Antrim, Northern Ireland. It seemed apparent that this family was somehow related to the (Quaker) Henry Greer family that settled nearby in Lurgan, Armagh, and in Dungannon, Tyrone, since both families were heavily involved in linen bleaching, linen draping, and other occupations.
We found a book of extracted Greer records, including Wills, Exchequer bills, Chancery bills, Administration bonds, and Marriage bonds at PRONI (Public Record Office of Northern Ireland) and had a copy made. In addition, we copied a large booklet of Greer pedigrees at the Quaker Record Office in Dublin. All of these records have been compiled into this database, as well as many of the Sasine and Service of Heirs records from Dumfries and Kirkcudbright, Scotland, and many of the christening records from the Scottish Church records index.
We have also gleaned an incredible amount of information from GRIERSON-L@rootsweb.com where David, Alan, and others have compiled an amazing history of these families.
This database is not finished. As with most genealogies, it is ongoing. We solicit your input, suggestions, corrections, and additions.
