On September 24, 1944, a Royal Air Force plane went down in Holten. This plane carried English Airmen who were attempting to liberate Holland from the Germans. All were young, all died. The people of Holten buried these men in their village cemetery and the graves are maintained to this day. Their tombstones are at the bottom of this page.
