Richard Crosby Jeter Jr., 2nd Mississippi Infantry Co L (Liberty Guards.) Enlisted on March 3rd, 1862 at Ripley, Mississippi. Wounded in the thigh on July 26, 1862 at the Battle of Gaines' Mills. Listed on the Roll of Honor May 5, 1864 at the Battle of the Wilderness where he was killed in action. Records show he was married and 18 years of age at the time of enlistment. Additional information shows that he was 6 feet tall, hazel eyes, dark hair and complexion. He was a farmer who was born in Union Mills, Union District, South Carolina. (1844-5 May, 1864)
