1823, is a hardware dealer. He married in 1894 to Carrie B. Gore and they have on daughter, Evelyn W., born in Newburyport in 1899.  She married John E. Swanson.

My great grandfather, James [5] Peavey (Joseph [4] - Hudson [3] - Abel [2] - Edward [1]) had a brother John [5] Peavey, whose family is noted on Page 15.  The history of Barnstead says he bought Tasker's Mills and enlarged them.  He kept a public house and store and was active in town affairs. He was in the New Hampshire legislature from 1823 to 1828 inclusive, selectman, and moderator, and bore the Presidential vote of New Hampshire to Washington in Jackson's time. He was Captain of Militia and active in aid of government in War of 1812 and stood 6 feet 4 inches tall.  He was born in 1776 and died in 1856.  His daughter (probably Sarah) married Daniel Bickford (History of Barnstead). In 1800 the town records say he married Deborah Meservey.

On page 13 I mention John [4] Peavey (Hudson [3] - Abel [2] - Edward [1]).  The Barrington records show he had at least one son, John [5] Peavey, probably born in 1791 and died in 1864.  This son married Mary Calvery and later Mary dark in 1860.  Very likely John [4] had another son Joseph [5] Peavey, for in the cemetery mentioned on page 13 there are two inscriptions: John [5] Peavey, born in 1791 and died in 1864, and Joseph [5] Peavey, born in 1798 and died in 1880. Barrington records say a Joseph [6] Peavey, Jr. married Hannah Foss in 1821.

John [5] Peavey married Mary Calverly and had at least two sons: Robert B.[6] Peavey, born in 1824 and married Emily Montgomery in 1848 and died in 1895, and John Calverly [6] Peavey. John C.[6] Peavey was born in 1820 and married Mary A. Calverly in 1841 and died in Wakefield in 1889. John C. [6] Peavey had at least three sons: Henry W. [7] Peavey, born in 1876. Henry W. [7] Peavey married twice, the second wife being Albina May Walton in 1894. A daughter, Shirley A. was born in 1905 and died in 1916. (The above records are from Enoch Place's Journal and town records).
