(1) Comprised the descendants of Peter2 of Hampton
and Andover.
Regarding (5) I have the following: The Raymond town history says that Samuel Peavey died there in 1811, aged 96. This makes his birth in 1715. The history also states that his son Joseph (born 1752) died in 1834, and that Joseph's wife died the same month. Joseph's sister Anna died in 1827. Both Joseph and Samuel are mentioned in land transactions. Who this family was, I do not know, but Joseph is mentioned in the Revolutionary 'War Rolls as being In Captain Elkin's Company, and also in Captain Stephen Denton's Company from Chester, the next town. Relative to (2) in the Census, Samuel and his wife, Ellin, or "Ellis" lived in Brentwood, in the part later known as Poplin, but now knows as the town of Freemont. He was a blacksmith, according to the Registry of Deeds, and an active land trader. From 1788 to 1806 he dealt in parcels of land, and is mentioned In the town reports in 1791 to 1802. It looks as if he came from Portsmouth, as Samuel and Ellin in 1802 deeded to Robert Ham of Portsmouth rights in the estate of "their father", Richard Mills, late of Portsmouth. |
