| Joseph L.[ ] Peavey married Mary Drew of Tuftonboro
in 1815. The next year they jointly convey to Henry [ ] Peavey of Tuftonboro.
Joseph L.[ ] was a man of some note, being juror, selectman, moderator
and Justice of the Peace for Tuftonboro, at various times from 1817 to
1830. In 1834 John [ ] Peavey of Tuftonboro, administered the estate of
Joseph L.[ ] Peavey. Joseph [ ] Peavey was surety for John [ ] and Mary.
Joseph L.'s [ ] widow was mentioned. In 1840 Joseph [ ] Peavey's estate
was administered by Abigail, his wife. John [ ] Peavey and John's children
were notified. It looks as if Joseph L.[ ] was a son of this Joseph [ ],
but is is peculiar that a will by Joseph L.[ ] Peavey was made in 1836,
mentioning his wife, Abigail (Peavey Deering, Edmund [ ] Peavey, and Polly).
This is evidently the estate administered in 1840 by the above Abigail.
Possibly both Josephs had a middle name beginning with "L".
In 1796 John [ ] Peavey (evidently Edward's [ ] son) married Sarah Thurston, both of New Durham. In 1803-5 Edward [ ] of Tuftonboro dealt in land and in 1808 he is reported by the town records as marrying Abigail Copp of Ossipee. In 1817 John S. [ ] Peavey of Tuftonboro conveyed land, and later there was a John S.[ ] Peavey, born 1835, in Tuftonboro, His father was reported by the town as being John [ ] Peavey of Tuftonboro, who married Hannah Thing of Ossipee. This John S. [ ], born in 1835, lived 55 years in Wolfeboro, where he died in 1910. I am acquainted with Harry B.[ ] Peavey (born 1876 in Wolfeboro), his son, who is with the well known Boston firm of S. S. Pierce and Company. Joseph S.[ ] Peavey of Tuftonboro married Sally York of the same town in 1816. Ebenezer [ ] Peavey was a town officer in Tuf- |
