| Sayward (his sister), and in 1773 the probate
records refer to his will, with his wife, Dorcas, as administratrix.
*************** Joseph [2], (Edward [1]) probably a brother to Abel [2], William [2] and Peter [2], resided, as I have stated in Newington. In 1727 A Joseph signed the charter for the town of Bow. tn 1728 a Joseph Peavey and his child Esther were baptized at Dover (G.R.). It is probable he soon went to the adjoining town of Berwick, for he and his wife began to deed land from Berwick. In 1732 the Concord archives say that Joseph [ ] and his wife, Elizabeth (Powell) Peavey, of Berwick, convey their right in the estate of Thomas Powell, late of Stratham, New Hampshire. Stratham was first a part of Greenland, which adjoins Newington on the south. In 1763 Joseph [ ] Peavey of Berwick deeded his land in Bow to one Norris of Stratham. He is on a list of members for Berwick First Church in 1756 (G.R.). In 1771 he is again noted in the Church Records, and Mr. Tale's Diary mentions his wife as dying in 1773 (G.R.). Who his children were is doubtful, but Berwick town records note the marriage of James [ ] Peavey and Love Butler in 1757 by Rev. Jacob Foster. Ebenezer [ ] Peavey was elected to a minor Berwick town office in 1758. The Berwick First Church records say that Stephen [ ] Peavey, son of James [ ] and Love Peavey, was baptized in 1758, also their son Charles [ ] Peavey in 1761, and their son James [ ] Peavey in 1763. The town records note the marriage of James [ ] Peavey to Keziah Sullivan in 1771. Berwick town records note Stephen [ ] Peavey's marriage to Sarah Nock in 1776, and the marriage in 1779 of Joseph [ ] Peavey to Miriam Lord. (The bans said Merriam Hamilton). |
