| 1728, baptized June 2, 1728 at Hampton; Peter
[3], born in Andover, October 17, 1731, died there unmarried August 3,
1754; and Thomas [3], born in Andover, March 14, 1736, married March 22,
1758, Dorcas Holt, and lived in Andover.
In 1724 the Concord Archives state that Peter [2] was deeded land in Chester, New Hampshire. He evidently removed to Andover, for his death is recorded there (Vital Records) in 1756. In the Adams' Diary there is a record of the marriage of Rachel Peavey, "Senior", in 1719, Rachel "Junior, marrying in 1721. Whether Rachel "Senior", was Edward's [1] widow, and whether Peter [2] named his daughter Rachel for her, his mother, wife of Edward [I], is an interesting and probable conjecture. Thomas [3] Peavey and his son Major Peter [4] Pevey, of Andover were the ancestors of a sturdy and important line who lived in Wilton, Greenfield, Peterboro and Bennington, New Hampshire and Clinton, Worchester, Lowell, Boston and Cambridge, Massachusetts. I have had some very pleasant correspondence from Arthur J. [7] Peavey of Twin Falls, Idaho, who was descended from Peter [2], Thomas [3], Peter [4], Jacob S. [5], and Jacob C. [6]. It will be noted that Arthur [7] spells his name Peavey. William [2] (Edward [1]) seems to have made his home in Portsmouth. I have not found his name previous to 1713, at which time the Concord archives mention him as witness from Portsmouth on a deed. In 1715 the records (G.R.) show that William [2] and Sarah Peavey joined North Church Portsmouth, and had their children, William [3] and Mary baptized. In 1717 the North Parish records show him to be rated in connection with the new meeting house. Evidently he was interested in the new town |
