***************

Of John [5] Peavey (Joseph [4], Hudson [3], Abel [2], Edward [1]) I have little record, but he might be traced by Barrington and Bamstead records. This much I know, however, Mrs. Nancy D. Perkins of Essex, Massachusetts once told me that this John [5] Peavey was her grandfather and moved from Stafford to Barnstead to live. She said his children were Joseph [6], born 1802, Nathaniel [6], born 1804, Abigail, born 1807, and Sarah, bom 1810. Abigail Peavey was Mrs. Perkins' mother. There is an old John [5] Peavey Homestead in
Barnstead. This John was a man of prominence and called "Squire Peavey". (Probably the above John [5] Peavey, son of Joseph [4]). There is a Peavey monument in a Barnstead cemetery, very similar to the Stafford one. Hudson [5], his half brother, (born 1779) is better known through the Swasey Genealogy. He was born in Bamstead, so this genealogy says, and died in 1864 at Stafford Ridge, presumably on the Joseph [4] Peavey place. He was buried in the cemetery referred to. The same authority says he married Hannah Pitman of Barnstead.

Their children were, according to this genealogy, Samuel P. [6] Peavey, born 1802, died in Bethlehem, New Hampshire — a man of note in legislative and business circles. Also Betsy Nutter Peavey, born 1807; Abigail Chesly Peavey, born 1807 and married Nathaniel Swasey of Exeter; Sarah Peavey, born 1812; Jewett J. [6] Peavey, bom 1814 and died in Exeter; George C. [6] Peavey, born 1815.

George [6] was a man of note, but early suffered an injury to his spine which affected his sight and general health. He practiced law, was president of an academy, a state senator, etc.,
