           Robert and Janet lived in Bally Craigy, Antrim County, Ireland,
           where Robert was a ruling elder of the Presbyterian Church.
           Before they came to Ireland, they lived in Scotland.
           Robert and Janet had a family of 23 children, of these children,
           two came to America in 1729.  William and his older brother,
           David, set out for America in 1729.  They were only young
           teen-age boys.  A lot of the Allen family are buried in the
           Church yard at the Presbyterian Church at Larne, Ireland.

                 William came to this country at age 18 in 1729, and landed at Phila.
                 He lived in New Jersey, married and burried his first wife there.
                 He then married Jane Warford and moved to Virginia,
                 in Louden County in 1762.  They had five sons
                  and three daughters.  Joseph was the youngest.

                       100 acrea of his farm.  Joseph sold it to his younger half-brother James in 1800,
                       soon after his father's death.  Joseph and his older brother, David, married sisters
                       (daughters of Robert Wright and Margaret Braden) and both families moved
                       to farms in Clark Co Kentucky, near what is now Mt. Sterling.  The Bradens
                       lived near Waterford in Loudoun Co., VA.   Joseph was a tall and slender man,
                       florid complexion, and hair as white as cotton.  Joseph was a soldier in the
                       War of the Revolution.
