THe following information was gathered for me by a wonderful French woman living near Les Houches France. Sisters and brothers of Françoise : (perhaps there were others) I've found four sisters (included your ancestor) and two brothers

The same day 4 young person from Saunt-Gervais (20 km from Les Houches) asked for a passport too. That day 26 passports or certificates were delivered Serial number : 251 to serial
number : 277.
Then, you see that François didn't travel alone from Les Houches to Le Havre. Families were recruited by men to
reclaim american land. They signed an agreement and were helped for the travel and installation. I have found a copy of an agreement in a book about emigration. Local administration didn't apreciate those kind of
recruitement because some persons lost more than they won. For each family I've worked on, the dates are similar even the year are different. They sold their properties in march and/or april, then took certificate to join Paris
in march/april, then joined Le Havre. And they sailed from may to mid june. For me, this means that there were society which brought them from one point to the other. I agree to think that seldom men could have travel by themselves
with a big taste of aventure. But, not families with kids and not enough rich to go back home. It's possible that François took a boat just before his family (one week before, one day before…). But, you can be sure I didn't make
a mistake with the certificate. I read and read it the line three or four times and copied it like it was. We can't have copy of papers (they don't appreciate and I didn't ask them because it's a really big book (register)
and there is only one line. We can't have copies of microfilms too that's why I copied the acts sometimes entire sometimes part of.
Making an other research, I have found that Mathieu GILLIER aged of 24 asked for a certificate to Paris on april the 9th 1841. At taht time he was described as a worker clock maker from Les Houches but living in Saint Roch (30 km far from Les Houches). I don't know if he emigrated that year but it's quite interesting.
I have to stop now. I'll try to translate the big act later but I prefer to send it to you like it is because it's really long for me to translate and organise and as we have a
little baby…It's difficult to have a lot of time. I did my best. There are very little mistake on your site Translation needed : It's a really good job because it's too difficult to read even for a french !! I have first to
translate it in modern french before understanding most of the acts !

and the mother of Marie Françoise GILLIER is called Louise DEVILLAZ (common name from the back of the valley too). Text 2 : 4 feb. 1759 : the mother is not Michèle CAPETIN but Michèle CUPELIN (name of the valley too)
The witness is Marguerite CUPELIN 7 feb. 1759 :the god mother is Michèle CARRIER
