Emmanuel and Delilia Peddicord
Inlaws of Harriet Briscoe Cox and Sarah Ann Cox
Robert can be traced with his parents in the 1830 through 1850 enumerations, and since he was married in 1855, he shows up in his own household in 1860. In the 1795 and 1800 Kentucky tax listings, ref the only Peddicord family in Mason County, Kentucky is that of John Peddicord, Emmanuel's father. As noted above, a daughter of John Peddicord (and thus a sister of Emmanuel), Elizabeth Peddicord got married in 1805 in Mason County. On 26 September 1807 Ruth Peddicord, another daughter of John Peddicord married Isaac Ambrose in Mason County with Abel Peddicord listed again as supplying the bond. 17 In 1810, there are six Peddicord households in Mason County (Abel, Emmanuel, Jacob, John, another John and Nicholas). This family grouping probably represents the elder John Peddicord with his grown sons living in their own households. The results for Emmanuel Peddicord, shown below, depict a young married couple with no children. |

In the 1830 enumeration both Emmanuel and John Peddicord Sr. appear in Mason County. The 1830 census, shown below, records Robert Craighead Peddicord at the age of two with his parents and brothers and sisters. Based on the above article submitted by Robert Craighead Peddicord's granddaughter, Robert's father died in a farm accident about 1840, and the boys took over the farming duties. We know Robert is the tenth child of Emmanuel and Delila, so they would have four more children after this census. |

She cannot read or write, but her children Francis and Henry are recorded as having attended school within the past year. The only Peddicord recorded in the 1860 census in this county is a 73 year old woman from Maryland, living with three younger women, and does not appear to be related to the Emmanuel Peddicord family. |

The life record of this venerable citizen of Patoka Township is one of interest and instruction, for it has been active, always so modulated as to be of the greatest service to those whom it touched. He has lived to see the transformation of a great country from the primeval forests and the wild prairies and he has performed well his part in this great work. |
Andrew M. Peddicord was born May 9, 1822 in Mason County, Kentucky, where he lived in 1851, when he came to Jacksonville, Illinois, having farmed sixteen miles from Jacksonville, paying only two dollars per acre for land in that part of the county. He was at the first state fair ever held in Jacksonville. A few years later he came to Marion County for the purpose of engaging in farming. He first landed in Salem and bought wild land here, which he improved. |
Our subject is the son of Andrew (actually Emmanuel) and Delilia (Eaton) Peddicord, being one of fourteen children born to them, consisting of seven boys and an equal number of girls. They were said to be the healthiest and finest looking family in Kentucky. The subject's father was born in Mason County, Kentucky, and the subject's mother was born in Harrison County, the Blue Grass state, both being representatives from large families. |
