The HALL Story Our Hall legacy begins with Thomas Hall (b. 1672 in Chester County, PA). It is not clear to me exactly where the family originated in Europe as I've found much conflicting information. But my best guess, at this time, is England. Sarah Hall (b. 1735 in Bucks County, PA) married John Pearson (b. 1728 in Bucks Co., PA) and they were among many of our ancestors who migrated from Pennsylvania to Newberry District, SC and Virginia to escape religious persecution. A part of Virginia ultimately became West Virginia during the time our ancestors populated that state -- so records indicate both states depending on record date. Similarly, many of the original counties cited in all the associated states (Pennsylvania, Virginia and W. Virginia and Ohio) were subdivided many times and so, over the years, the same places were known by a variety of names. A good number Halls migrated to the Miami Valley and, specifically, Miami County from SC at about the same time. Most were part of the Quaker exodus from slave holding states. I have found no evidence that any Halls were actually Quakers but, throughout history, they married into well documented Quaker families and followed their migration patterns. The Quakers left to distance themselves from the practice of slavery which they opposed. The Quaker's didn't always feel that way as records for several Quakers that I've run across in my research indicate they actually owned slaves early on. Though Quakers are known for pacifism, the Hall's have served in the Revolutionary War, the War of 1812 and the Civil War. Because the Census records prior to 1950 do not list individual names I can't, at this time, ascertain which of the Miami County Hall's sons was William's father. For this reason, should you want to pursue the Hall history you will need to go to Isaac's name link and work backward. Hall Biographical Links:
