Their lives were plain and humble, living simply from day to day. Many farmed their fields, others dabbled in business and a few even learned a trade. They came from other places, far away states and counties that were near. To settle in this town named Democrat - pioneers with courage who knew no fear. Their hopes fulfilled upon arrival in this land of promise they would call home. This Garden of Eden where they planted their roots nevermore to wander or roam. They worked together as family and friend to forge a reality of life. From the shadows of their life-long dreams, built with patience through every strife. They stood strong and tall peering across this vast expanse of land. And knew in their hearts they had been blessed by a touch from God's own hand. They built a place to raise their families with truth and dignity and pride. And all the while - unbeknownst to them, their own legacy would arise. The list of their accomplishments are many- the stories of our ancestors are told. And we, their descendants, stand here today with much in our hearts to behold.. For without their courage and commitment, where would we be today? They founded a new life for themselves, but deeded it to us at the end of their days. We stand today in what's left of their dream that faded too quickly and vibrant no longer. But their spirit survives the passing of time and by their example we are made stronger. Whether we're family or friend or community leader, their legacy is ours to enjoy. Their lives are passed, but the inheritance they left - lives on in us evermore. |
