P.C. Worthy and Q. M. Griffin swore that they knew Sarah Ann Groce was a bona fide resident citizen of the State of Texas before D.U Ramsey, County Judge of Gonzales County on July 29, 1930.
AFFIDAVIT OF WITNESSESF. F. Wood swears that "I was personally acquainted with Martin Van Buren Caraway during his lifetime and was acquainted with him during the years of the war between the state. I was a member of Co.F. of Willis' Battalion of Cavalry of Waul's Texas Legion and personally acquainted with nearly all the members of said Battalion. I know that Martin Van Buren of Cavalry of Wauls Texas legion. I knew and associated with him for months from the time of his enlistment in 1862 to the close of the war in 1865. His service was at all time honorable" signed by his own hand F.F. Wood on July 22, 1930 . |

Comptroller of Public Accounts The Adjutant General's Office Washington August 6, 1930 Respectfully returned to : The Comptroller, State of Texas Austin, Texas The records show that Martin V. Caraway, not borne as Martin Van Buren Caraway, private, Company I, 1st (McCulloch's) Texas Cavalry, Confederate States Army, enlisted April 15, 1862 at Gonzales and was mustered into service April 20, 1861, at San Antonio, Texas. Age 20 years, Most of the men in the 1st (McCulloch) Texas Calvary had subsequent service in Wauls Texas legion. The company muster rolls for Company C, Willis Battalion, Waul's Texas Legion for September and October 1864, last on file, shows him present. No Later record of him has been found.
