Subject: New subscriber searching for monument in Palermo

Hi Everyone, The family names I am researching are mainly Giannusa and Tutrone from Palermo, Sicily. I have birth dates almost as far back as the early l800's.

A cousin told me that "In Palermo, near the Cathedral, there is a statue of Garibaldi. Not far from there, is a monument to those that fought under him. There is the name of Benedetto Giannusa on it." This is the name of my great-grandfather who died in the l930's. He was buried in his red shirt, which is what they wore when they were fighting back in the 1860's.  He was born in l840.

In Palermo there is a monument to the Sicilian patriots on the Piazza Ruggero Settimo near the Potileama Garabaldi and the Galeria d'Arte Moderna.

Does anyone know of this monument and perhaps, have a picture of it? Can anyone direct me on where to find such a picture?

Any help would be most appreciated.

 Ciao,

 Rosalie
