Subject: [ITA-SICILY-L] Burgio, Agrigento

Ciao:

I'm new to this list and thrilled to have found it. I'm researching my mom's family, my grandfather's name was Antonio Sanfilippo, my grandmother's name was Angela Digiorgio. They both came from Burgio, Agrigento, he came in 1910 and she came in 1921, they were married a short time later in Chicago.

I was wondering if anyone has the postal code for Burgio, Ag. or where I can find it. Is there a site on the internet?

Thank You,

Angela Schumacher

Hi Everyone: I hope this won't be boring.

I've been busy getting things translated. Last week I received a registered letter from Sicily, it had both of my grandparents birth certificates enclosed. Then yesterday I received another letter from Sicily. About 5 weeks ago I sent a letter to a man in my grandparents town who happened to have the same name as my great grandfather, telling him about my family and my search for my family history. Well, what I've been able to find out so far is that he gave the letter to a woman who believes my grandfather and her grandfather were brothers. She even mentions the third brother who went to Argentina. I copied it and E-mailed it to my niece who is living in Rome studying Italian.  She did the original translation for me with help from her professor.  This was going so slow for such a long time, I didn't think I would get this far for years. This list has been a great help to me and I thank you all for all the great ideas and advice.

Grazie,

Angela Schumacher

Hi Lori,

I noticed you have a DiGiorgio in your surnames. My Grandmother was Angela Digiorgio born 1898 in Burgio, AG. Sicily. She came over in 1921. Her father who was living in New York at the time was Alfonso Digiorgio. We don't know if he stayed in New York or went back to Sicily. She also had an older sister Maria Digiorgio who married a Baldassano. My grandmother married Antonio Sanfilippo in Chicago in 1921. Just wondering if anything sounded familiar.
