My Ferrara is Giavonna (Jennie) Ferrara. Legend has it that she had an affair with a Duke and had a baby boy ... Guiseppe. She married a man named Francesco Meli. They supposedly adopted this young boy to cover the "incident". At this point, I have not found documentation on the exact town she was from. She always told the family here in the US that she was from Palermo. I do not believe that from some evidence that I have found. I am trying the obtain her ship passenger list 10/1897 and her naturalization paperwork now. Nothing else shows a town. Guiseppe who later changed his name in the US to George married a Rosilee from Messina which makes me wonder how they met. Anyway I'll keep your name and you keep mine, perhaps we'll run across a connection.

Have an AWESOME week!

Jill

Thank You Grace. This Francesco happened to be married to a Giovanna (Jennie) Ferraro. They had three children: Margaret, Frances and Joseph.  Frances born on the ship from Sicily in 1896 and Joseph in 1897 in New York.  They had an adopted(?) son George born 1884 in Sicily. There are still some of the Meli family in New York. Anything sound familiar?
