CALCO, ZINGALES, MICELI from Messina. Rose and Francesca Calco came to the USA around 1912. Rose married Tony Calco in the US (we believe he is from Sicily also). Francesca married a Valentino in the US.  One brother, Salvatore, never left Sicily. After Rose and Francesca died (Rose in l929 at the age of 29) their mother, Antonia Zingales came to the US and raised all 8 grandchildren before she went back home to Sicily (around l936).

Because all the children were orphaned so young none of them know any family background. Carol Landolfo

Shirley, Cleveland had a large Italian immigrant population both on the East and West side of town. My husband's fratenal. Grandparents settled in Cleveland on the West side and many still live on the same street. On the East side there is still a very large section called Little Italy with wonderful shops, restaurants and bakeries. The people that live in these sections are all second and third generation Italians and Sicilians!! There was also a lot of work in Cleveland at the time...brickwork...steel mills...bridge work... My husband's Grandmother (Rose Miceli) was from Messina. She came to Cleveland around l913 and married a Tony Calco. She was born in 1900 (her mother was Antonia Zingales) and died at the age of 29 leaving 4 children.  Her husband passed away a few years before. As the children were all sent to orphanages we have very little family history to go on.
