I would like to enter my Grandmother's name: Anna Cosima Castro from Termini Imerese, Sicily. She arrived in the U.S. with her parents, Guiseppe Castro and Girolama Castro, her brother Cosimo and Antonio, and her sister Rosa (Rosa and Antonio died in their early teens). Two other siblings were born in the U.S., Antonio and Maria Castro. The family settled in Chicago, Illinois, and they are all buried in Mt. Carmel Cemetary in Hillside, Illinois.

Janna:

My Gangi Grandparents were from Santa Caterina Villermosa, and my mother's father, Felice DiGangi, was from Castallan Sicula. These towns are near Caltaniasetta, Sicily. My cousin who still lives in Sicily, Giovanna DiGangi, is married to Lillo LiPuma from Petralia Sottana. They live and work in Palermo. Please ask your friend if she knows Giovanna. Lillo and Giovanna where here in Oregon during the summer of 1998. I was in Petralia, a beautiful town, and the famous Pucci family owns a mansion there. There is a Gangi River in the mountains, and I think people were given surnames by where they lived. DiGangi means "of the town". My mom has a cousin, Mario Sabatino, who lives in Pertalia during the winter and Chicago during the summer.

Doris and Carlo:

My great-grandmother's name was Geraci from Termini Imerese. It is actually just east of Palermo. She married a Castro also from Termini Imerese. They traveled back and forth to the US beginning in 1897 and finally staying here in 1907. Their children were Angelo (who died during the 1918 flu epidemic), Cosmo, Cosima (my grandmother), Maria, and Antonio. They immigrated to Chicago.

Does this sound familiar?

I noticed that you are researching the Baglio name. My Grandmother was Stefana Baglio who immigrated to the US in 1915. She and her family were from Villarosa, Sicily. I have Baglio relatives in Chicago and in Hammond, Indiana. Were your Baglio relatives from Villarosa?

... I noticed that you are researching the name "Baglio." My paternal grandmother was Stefana Baglio from Villarosa, Sicily in the Province of Enna. They settled in Northern Indiana and then moved to Chicago where my Dad was born. I am in contact with the Baglios in Villarosa. Perhaps I could help if you think we may have a common ancestor.

My Grandmother was also born in Villarosa. Her name was Stefana Baglio, and her mother's names was Nicoloa LaDuca. I also visited Villarosa. My Grandmother settled in Chicago, and many of her friends were from Villarosa. My Aunt would know there names. I know that one friend of hers was a DeStefano.

My father is from that neighborhood. His name is Guy Gangi, and he played in a big band at the Paradise Ballroom before WWII. All the musicians were from there. The band's name was Tori Muro and Band. I think I spelled it correctly. I can get any information that my family can remember.

My name is Gangi, but the spelling was changed by a Chicago nun (as the story goes). My Gangi family is from Santa Caterina Villermosa in the province of Caltanisetta. Do you have any Gangi relatives is Chicago?

My mother has cousin's named Zaccone. They are in the Chicago area. I think they are from Termini Imerese. I don't know if there is a connection here or not.

There was an Annette Inzinga on this list who was related to me and to the Zaccone's in Chicago. Annette, are you still here? If not, I have her e-mail. My mother's cousin was Dominic Zaccone, and he had several brothers. Annette would know his parent's name.
