Dear Listers,

Looking for grandfather who was born and adopted in Palermo, Sicily, and migrated to America abt. 1909. His name Vincenzo Canelli, b. 1893 migrated to America and first settled in Pontiac, Illinois, then as an adult lived in Joliet, Illinois, where he died in 1973. He had two brothers, Tony and Tom, (Antonio and Tomas most likely).

Does anyone know about adoptions in Sicily 1893-5?

I have just begun searching for the Gelsomino family from Palermo. Before I go much further, Is Gelsomino a common name in Sicily. I ask because my original sources are rather sketchy.
