Subject: [{ITA-SICILY-L}] My surnames list

I haven't posted the surnames I'm searching for to this list yet, so here are the primary ones:

COLOMBO, SANTO COLOMBO, COLUMBUS (Americanized) from Campofelice di Roccella, Sicily (Palermo)

TUMMINELLO from Campofelice di Roccella and Cefalu

Also, from the Salerno region:

LETIZIA and CARDELLA from Castelcivita

CONSTANTINE (likely also Castelcivita, but unsure.)

Thanks!

Brian Columbus

Yes, try www.americanwardead.com

I was able to find information about my uncle, Patsy Columbus, who died in the Normandy Invasion and is buried there. It gave the cemetery info including plot and grave #s. Good luck.

I think we may have corresponded off this list some time in the past year, because you're name looks familiar, so perhaps we never found a connection. I'm sorry, but I haven't heard of the places that you listed.

But, my great grandmother was Concetta (nee) Tumminello, and I believe she was from Cefalu (b. Jan 1, 1855). Her children were born in Campofelice di Roccella, which is west of Cefalu on the shore. I know that a cousin of hers (Filippo Tumminello) who married her daughter, was from Cefalu (according to his passport). Filippo was the son of Pasquale Tumminello and Rosalia Glorioso. I don't know Concetta's parents' names.

You can contact me off the list, if need be.

My grandfather was Sebastiano SANTO COLOMBO from Campofelice di Roccella, which is on the coast just north of Collesano. He immigrated, as did all of his siblings, except one: Salvatore, who had a couple children who immigrated and dropped the "Santo" part of the last name and used COLOMBO. Salvatore and his other 10 children remained back in Campofelice. (My grandfather and others Americanized the last name to COLUMBUS.) I don't recognize any of the other names on your list, however.
