Ena Hughes Reagan was born in Kirkland, Chester Co., Pennsylvania in 1888, the
youngest daughter of George Hughes and Phoebe (Rusk) Hughes. She married Irvin
G. Reagan in 1909, an event followed in due time by the birth of twin girls - Carol
and Mildred.
The family of four resided on S. Darlington Street in West Chester. Until some time
after 1934, Ena was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, then a member of
Holy Trinity Episcopal Church. She was always quite active in Eastern Star, holding
Past Matron status at the time of her death.
At one time, Ena was the sole family member who knew her genealogy, had it on paper,
and carefully preserved it. Her three grandchildren recall her stories of kinship
to the Harrisons of Virginia and to Thomas Rolfe, son of John Rolfe and Matoaka (the
woman who bore the more familiar appellation - Pocahontas). However, as is so sadly
common, on her death, the tidy list disappeared. Her grandchildren, uninterested
and inattentive, as grandchildren are wont to be, now recall nothing more than that a kinship
of some fashion DID exist with the Harrisons and the Rolfes.
Ena was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother and spent most of her final
years in the homes of her daughters. She was preceded in death by her husband, and her daughter, Mildred.
