my ANDERSON family

My ANDERSON line is still largely unexplored. The most remote ANDERSON ancestor positively identified is James Anderson.

In the 1880 Census, James reported that he was 59 years old and had been born in Ohio. He also stated that both his parents were born in Ohio. James' wife, Mary Ann, was 55 at the time of the 1880 Census and reported her birth to have been in Pennsylvania. The family was then living in Valley Township in Armstrong Co., Pennsylvania, near the area known as Brockettville. Their immediate neighbors included Campbell families and Starr families (one of which was James and Mary Ann's very pregnant daughter Elizabeth and her husband -- Elizabeth's first child, Arthur Starr, was born later in the very week of the 1880 enumeration).

The children of James and Mary Ann were: Mary (b. CIR 1850; d. 1918) She married George W. Berline Sr. Mary Berline is buried in the Kittanning Cemetery. William "Billy" (b. CIR 1852) He was a miner. Samuel (b. 1853 in Pennsylvania) At the time of the 1880 Census, Samuel was a 27-year-old laborer, living with his parents. Elizabeth J. (b. 1858 in Pennsylvania; d. 1928 in Kittanning) She married Andrew A. Starr. They are buried together in the Kittanning Cemetery. John (b. 1861 in Pennsylvania) John was 19 when the Census was taken for 1880, he is identified as a laborer, living with his parents. He later married a woman named Jane (photo). And the youngest, Ulissis (b. 1866 in Pennsylvania) She is identified as 14 years old in the 1880 Census. The second letter of her name has been written over in the census form, making it difficult to determine the exact spelling of her name.

I recall family references to Mary Berline, I have a photograph of Uncle Billy I remember from early childhood, and photos of Uncle John and his wife, Jane. But, I do not remember anyone in my family ever mentioning a Ulissis.

My ANDERSON search continues.
