Clarksville Weekly Chronicle, June 18, 1881

CORLEW--William Corlew died at his home in this county, eight miles south of Clarksville, June 3, 1881--aged 71 years.

Thus a long and "useful" life is ended. He was a friend to everybody. He came as near filling the true ideal of the thirteenth chapter of 1st Corinthians as anyone I ever saw. "Charity suffereth long and is kind." We shall miss him at our place of worship. He always filled his place in the church when he was able to get there. This notice might be indefinitely extended, but it is sufficient to say that he was a good man and true, and died in peace with God and man. He was buried at Salem church after appropiate funeral service by his old friend, Rev. J.M. Swift. PASTOR

THE DEATH RECORD

Mrs. Eliza Corlew Dies at Her Home on the South Side
Mrs. Eliza Corlew died at her home on the south side, near Pleasant Mound, last night, after only a brief illness. She was an aged lady and greatly admired by all people who knew her. Had she lived until her next birthday she would have been 78 years old. Her life has been one of sterling worth in the community in which she lived. She was a member of the Methodist church and lived up to its requirements in every respect. In the social circle she was a favorite, always making her home cheerful to those who visited her. She reared a family of children who are well known and popular in the county. She was the mother of E. W. and David Corlew who reside at Pleasant Mound, and also of Dr. Corlew, now a practitioner at Evansville, Ind. Her death will be a shock to her children and a source of deep regret to her numerous friends and acquaintances. Funeral services will be conducted at Salem tomorrow at 11 o'clock. The remains will be interred in the burying ground at the church.
