Census Records: Tonder Amt

Introduction

When Schleswig-Holstein was under Danish rule censuses were taken in 1835, 1840, 1845, and 1860. Microfilms of these census records are available from the Family History Library. This should help you locate the correct film.

Transcriptions of some of these records can also be searched at Dansk Demografisk Database.

My ancestors came from Horsbüll and Emmelsbüll, so I have the microfilms of the census records for those parishes on indefinite loan from the Family History Library at my local Family History Center, and would be happy to do quick look-ups, provided you have a good idea where the family lived, as these films are not indexed.

Let me warn you, though, that some pages on some of these films are extremely difficult to read.
