 HOLY CROSS ABBEY

Holy Cross Abbey or Uachtar-Lamhan (its ancient Celtic name), Thurles, Tipperary was endowed in 1180 by Dónal Mór Ua'Briain, although monks were living there prior to this time when the Cistercian monks arrived from Monasteranenagh (Croom), County Limerick.  Monks continued to live in the abbey until the 18th century.
