Tobin, de St. Aubyn, Tóibin A surname of Norman origin, whose bearers became completely hibernicized. “de St. Aubyn” a town in Brittany, the scene of a battle between the French and Bretons aided by the English in 1488. The Tobins settled in Tipperary and Kilkenny, whence they spread into the neighbouring counties. In 1890 Tobin was numerous in Waterford, it was also to be found in Cork, Tippeary, Limerick, Dublin and Kilkenny. The estimated number of bearers was 4,390.
