McSharry, Mac Searraigh A Gaelic surname derived from Searrach meaning ‘foal, flighty’. A sept of Breifney. Sometimes translated as Foley in Sligo. In 1890 McShary was numerous in Leitrim, it was also to be found in Donegal and Sligo. The estimated number of bearers was 1,299.
