In Scotland Morgan was to be found in Aberdeenshire, and Clan Morgan was the designation of the Mackays of the Reay country in Sutherland. May be an anglicisation of several Irish Surnames. In 1853 Morgan was the thirty-seventh most numerous surname in England, the estimated number of bearers being 41,000. In Ireland in 1890 Morgan was numerous in Louth, the surname was also to be found in Antrim, Armagh, Down and Dublin. The estimated number of bearers was 5,913. In the United States it is the 57th most numerous surname with an estimated 324,500 bearers. In England and Wales in 1996 it was the 39th most numerous surname.
