Houston, Huston, MacGiollatSeachlainn A Scottish surname of territorial origin from the barony of the name in Lanarkshire. May also mean son of hutchin, a diminutive of Hugh, probably a branch of the MacDonnells. In the Stranorlar area of Donegal sometimes a synonym of MacGiollatSeachlainn, or Mac an Teachlainn, MacTaghlin. Also see Hutchinson. In 1890 the estimated number of bearers was 3,400 and was principally found in Antrim, Derry, Armagh and Down.
