Hoare, le Hore, ó hUidhir A surname of Cambro-Norman origin who settled in South Leinster as well as Cork and Kerry, le Hore meaning ‘the hoary, greyish-white’. To be distinguished from ó hUidhir, from Odhar meaning ‘dark-grey’, a rare Cork sept. In 1890 Hoare was principally found in Kerry, Cork and Dublin, and the estimated number of bearers was 1,340.
