In 1993, Jim & Georgene Humphries stopped in Elgin Oregon to search for family there. After several unsucessful attempts to run down family, we went out to Cricket Flat and met a descendant of the Rysdams who owned a large ranch upon the Flat. We took pictures of the old Rysdam Home and were ableto find the Cemetery where several of the family are buried. William Rubin and his wife, Catherine Baker Breshears and Sarah Crawford, Martha Melvina Hammacks sister who married Abe Crawford. We looked over across the flat from the cemetery and saw the fence and old cabin nestled against the opposite hillside. This appeared to be the cabin built by the Andrew Jackson Breshears and Andrew Hammacks before their returning to Idaho 1879-1883.

Upon returning to Elgin we went for a visit to a descendant of William Rubin Breshears - "RUB". We have a rough family sketch of Rube's descendants-sure hope I can figure it all out.

Jay married Clara Rysdam daughter of Arie Rysdam and Louisa Cruishank on 29 Nov 1913 in Elgin, Union, Oregon. Clara was born on 26 Apr 1886 in Elgin, Union, Oregon. She died on 7 May 1962 in Elgin, Union, Oregon.

John Bryan Conway is my father-in-law.

I recently went through W. H. Conway's family bible (not always accurate),
obits of people listed below (sometimes accurate) and asked my husband to
review this information (he has first hand knowledge of these folks). To his
knowledge, Frances Conway was only married to a Henry Uden. They adopted two
children, their names were Bill and Nancy. They lived in California and he
believes they still do. And we don't know why JOPLIN is in John Conway's
name. It says that John married Mary Stillwell. Mary was his sister, who
married Charles Stillwell. Their children were Joyce and Charlene (I don't
have their b. dates and I apologize for not putting them into the GEDCOM I
sent you.)

Hope the information I sent helps out. The Cotton information is
interesting -- I would be curious to see where it came from. John Conway's
marriage to Jean Martin was kept a "secret" in the family. My mother-in-law
did not want him to share the details of this past marriage with their
children. It was a tragic story, one he shared with me after my marriage to
his son. Jean was a school teacher and they had a milk farm. She got TB and
died and he lost the farm, went on the road and left his daughter in Mary's
care. Young Frances died of a mastoid infection at about age 8, and I
believe she is buried in Dry Creek also.

The Conway's were one of the first white settlers in Boise. In fact W.H.
Conway was one of the first generation of children born in Boise -- his
sister's obit said she was the second white child born there. Henry Conway
came to Boise in the 1860s, marrying Nancy Hadden in 1863. He fought in the
Indian Wars, the Mexican War and settled in Boise. The only Conway's we are
related to are our boys. There are no other Conways that we know of that are
related to us. I have been looking for Henry's parents -- and have yet to
find them. But that is another rabbit trail to run down.
