194. Margaret or Peggy Brashears (Henry Alexander Breshears , John Brashier or Braysor , John Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born on 15 Feb 1811 in , , SC. She died on 30 Apr 1864 in Pippin Cem, Benton, MO.
Researched by Roy COLBERT; Voyne BRESHEARS and GEORGENE HUMPHRIES, pre
1968, Compiled from notes taken without sources basically.HISTORY: Alexander BRESHEARS and MARGARET BRESHEARS, migrated to what
is now BENTON Co., Missouri. He had a family of 4 or 5 and they lived in
BENTON CO., MO., until some time after 1850. Margaret and Alexander
Breshears were Cousins. In about 1838, a group of brothers, cousins and
their families, left Lawrenceburg Tennessee. Three brothers, John
BRESHEARS, Henry BRESHEARS and ALEXANDER BRESHEARS, traveled by Ox cart
to Missouri. Middleton and Nathan BRESHEARS, undoubtedly cousins, move
about the same time. JOHN BRESHEARS settled near BOLIVAR MISSOURI.
ALEXANDER, ,NATHAN and HENRY BRESHEARS JR., settled in Benton Co., near
the present boundry of HICKORY and BENTON MO., in the valley of the
POMME DE TERRE RIVER. One old timer, still there about 1968, said that
at one time nearly every house in the valley was a BRESHEARS-BRASHEARS
or a son-in-law, and that there were 120 odd BRESHEARS children in the
school at one time. By the turn of the century, however, the young had
migrated away, until, there are few families left. The Spelling of the name with an "e", appears, in the records of
Spartenburg, South Carolina, along with the alias BRATCHER alias
BRADSHAW. However, the spelling of BRESHEARS began with HENRY BRESHEARS
JR., in MISSOURI, about the time of the Civil War. The reason is lost in obscurity. Necessity of writing the name by SOLDIERS, may have been the reason. Nearly all of the descendants after 1860, used the "e" in the
name.Batch #: 8705605, Sheet #: 49, Source Call #: 1396312

Breshears SR.1830...CENSUS: Alexander appears in Lawrence Co TN. Alex's first wife
died during the Civil War at age 53. She is buried in the Sarah Pippin
Cemetery near Alexander. It is believed ALEXANDER brought his family
from LAWRENCBURG TN in 1833/35. The Kickapoo Indians had been removed
and the land opened for settlement. Henry and Atsey Breshears, their
seven children, Aunt Roda and a boy whom they adopted, WILLIAM CARROLL
GREEN BRESHEARS, came to settle in 1838. Alexander built his house on
the eastern side of the valley near the Pomme de Terre River, while
Henry and Atsey settled down to raise his family of 14 children on the
Western side of the valley. Alexander was known as a horse trader. Henry
a quiet, unassuming man who also did part time blacksmithing.
Alexander was a deacon in the Baptist Church and preformed many
marriages. He was called "SQUIRE BRESHEARS", was a justice of the peace
and held court in his house.A THEORY: Based upon the BRASHER/BASHAM Deed Indexes of Lawrenceburg
TN: It appears the following events took place. SAMUEL H. BASHAM died,
leaving his son SAMUEL H. BASHAM Jr. as his administrator. The widow is
MARY JANE BASHAM. [It is possible this is JANE TURNER? and probable
mother of NATHAN and ALEXANDER BRASHEARS by a former marriage]. Samuel
H. Basham was guardian to Drury A. BASHAM Jr., his brother. Their mother
was ELIZABETH BRASHEAR. I wonder if she was sister to HENRY ALEXANDER
and JOHN SR. BRESHEARS and thus the cousinship.
Alexander and Margaret had the following children:
343 M i Robert Washington Brashears was born in 1828 in of Lawrenceburg, Lawrence, TN.
Has anyone ever wondered why the first child born to this family is Robert Breshears? Should we be looking for a Robert as Alexanders father?344 F ii Elizabeth Brashears was born in 1829 in of Lawrenceburg, Lawrence, Tennessee. She died about 1870. + 345 F iii Louisa Breshears + 346 F iv Mary Elizabeth Breshears + 347 M v John Alexander Brashears + 348 M vi James H Breshears 349 M vii Andrew Jackson Brashears was born in 1843 in , of Benton, Missouri. 195. Middleton Breshears (James Turney *** Breshears , John Brashier or Braysor , John Brashier , William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ).
Middleton is still an inigma to this researcher, after 35 years. That Middleton appeared in the estate settlement of Henry Alexander Breshears [1829], is a good clue to cousinship. His close proximity in Missouri is another good indication that he is closely related.
