Descendants of Edward Burcher or Bezer Earl Of Bath

Sixth Generation

64. William (Brasur) Brasier (William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born on 6 May 1696 in Baltimore, Baltimore, MD. He died on 18 Jan 1728.

1728...BRASHER, William (2) s/of William (1) b 6 May 1696, d by 18 Jan 1728, when adm bond was posted by William Smith and Richard Caswell with Richard Caswell and Joseph Ward (XCK: James & Samuel WARD of Surry Co., NC w/William Brazier). William then appears in SC, w/Land Deed signed by James & Samuel WARD) ; married Jane (Calvin?) est. adm. 26 Apr 1731 by William Smith; had issue: Richard b 6 Feb 1720 (as orphan of William Brasher was bound to Richard Caswell in Jun 1729 and to William Dallam in Nov 1737); Sarah b. 26 Jan 1723; Jane b 31 Mar 1726 (may be Jane ind. for bast., Mar 1743/4, tried for bast. Mar 1744, and ind. for bast. in Nov 1746) (3; 11; 28:144; 31:133; 35:154 480; 36:220; 128)

The affiliation with the Anderson family indicate this is the right connection. The fact that WILLIAM BRASUR was assigned by the Vestry of Prince George Parish as Warden, makes me feel this is the right William. Now how did William BRASHUR get from St. Martins Parish to Prince George Parish ? This is what appears to have happened.

PRINCE GEORGE PARISH: The original "Old Baltimore County" extended over the area from the Sesquehanna River to the Old Ann Arundel County. It abutted against Cecil County on the east and included part of Carrol Co., on west. Between the Sesquehanna and Bush River was located the "SPESUTIA PARISH".
North Gunpowder was located between Bush River and Gunpowder River. The Spestula and Gunpowder Hundred area is located in modern HARFORD COUNTY. To understand how WILLIAM BRASHUR, ended up in Prince George Parish we need to look closely at the rearranging and divisions of County and Parish records.
OLD PRINCE GEORGE PARISH, was originally in "Old Spesutia Parish". When Baltimore County was formed , "OLD ST, GEORGE PARISH" was the parent parish.

***CRONALOG FOR NORTH GUN POWDER BRAYSIER FAMILY , BALTIMORE CO, MD***

( LDS "AIS" -(Micro-Fiche & Balt. Co Tax lists by Raymond B. & Sara S Clark (c) 1964)
The North Gunpowder River had an early "BRADSHAW" family from which the town
of BRADSHAW was named. Probably this was the old timer William BRADSHAW who went by BRAZIER; BRASUR; BEZER.

1689- 1793...BRASHIER, William (b 26 May 1696): Father William BRAYEAR was living on SWAN Creeke (St . George Par. Reg. 1689-1793. By Bill & Mary REAMY "Family Lines Pub. , pg 6) SWANN Pt. is just south of the mouth of the Susquehanna River. William and Elizabeth (Clayton) Brashier were on North Gun Powder by 1699.

1699 ...BRAYSIER, William taxed om North GunPowder (pg 8)
1702...BRAESER (BREASHEAR), Will, taxed on Spesutia tax lists. (pg 28) 1703... BRAYSON, Wm. North Gunpowder. (ibid pg 31) Note: See heirs with Brayson spelling in old Edgefield Co., SC 1790 (LDS "AIS")
1703...BRADER (sic) Edward, North GunPowder. (ibid pg 31) Here is Edward BEZER Jr. cousin of William BEZER Jr.

1704...BRASER, William is in North Gun Powder (ibid pg 41)
1705...BRAZER, Thomas was in South Gunpowder (ibid pg 52). South Gun Powder was the area from Middle River to Patapsco River which was lying in the center of Baltimore Co. This area later was Harford County.

1815...A WILLIAM BRASEIR (Abstract of Wills for Baltimore Co., MD) was witness for Lydia Helprinston who had a grandson John Davis alias John Baker, sister Mary Powell ...recorded in Washington Co MD. These names are "Kin" to William of Worcester Co. MD [11934]. Note: These families (heirs) with names of DAVIS; BAKER:; TEAGUE remove to "Old 96 Dist SC", and are found with the Spartenburg Co., BRASHER (BRAYSOR) CLAN.

***BACK TO WORCESTER CO., MD BRASHURS, CLAYTONS, MUMFORDS & MARTINS***

Worcester County MD is one of those Counties that appeared as Worcester Co., Delaware (date insert) and later became Essex and Sussex county Delaware with Worcester disappearing in Delaware 1640ish. Worcester Co. MD then reappears (date insert). Essex and Sussex Co., Delaware was part of the Penn grants east of the Delaware River.

1761...Worcester Co., MD, St. Martins Parish, pg 75 [LDS Film # GS 924759] On 1 Sep 1761: William Brashur and Jn Mumford were assigned Pew number 15 in the St. Martin's Parish Meeting House. Note: St. Martins River was the area where the CLAYTONS, MUMFORDS; PYLES: COX; MARTINS and CLOUDS settled at Chichester, Delaware County Pennsylvania. The history of Delaware Co., PA, gives account of the first settlers. (insert LDS_GS Bk # ----------).

The original Quaker family viz: John, William & Edward BEZER, were among
these settlers, with i-laws MARTINS, CLAYTONS. PYLES; HARDINS and many others proven to be family connections. The Records of the" Quaker Concord Meeting House" give extensive records for our families who settled first at Chichester, Chester Co., PA, in the area that was separated out as "Delaware Co., PA".

William BEZER, evidently was never or at least did not remain Quaker, BUT a member of another denomination. He took land in the area of Swann Creeke (drifting south), to the area that later became Upper Gunpowder Hundred.

JOHN BEZER remained in Pennsylvania (Delaware and Chester Co). His sons John
& Richard left wills in Chester County PA.

Edward BEZER Jr. who appears with them is hard to pin down. Edward BEZER was in North GunPowder in 1705, spelled BRADER.

1764...pg 85: 1 May 1764 ...appeared Kendall Collier and Henry Hudson ((H. Hudson -connection to the Worcester Co., MD & Essex Co., VA)) -John & Richard BRAZIER, qualify as Parish Vestrymen. WILLIAM BRAZHER (correct spelling) as "CHURCH WARDING" at Prince George Chappel. [Where-Prince George Parish ?] The record mentions that the Worcester Parish (St Martin's) was erected out of the Parish Snowhill, being on the Easternshore of Maryland near ( Correction of location here _1998), by act of assembly.

1744-St. Martin's is the Church's Name. The Whartons, Claytons , Martins and Brashers were members. (XCK: Kennon Hudson who wtn land transactions for Aquilla in Spartenburg SC. (Correction of location 1998)

1771...William and Sarah [ Cox?] sold land in Worcester County MD. It appears to be them in Cumberland County NC abt 1751, then this may have been just a transferral of property in Worcester Co. MD. WM Brasur [correct spelling] appeared in the deed index of Cumberland Co., NC also.

***THE OTHER WILLIAM BREASHEAR OF FAYETTE CO PENNSYLVANIA***

1768ish...In Fayette County PA, is a TWP called WHARTON. I would appear
logical for the descendants of Ann (Widow of WM Brazier) & Richard WHORTON, (#2 md) to be associated with her first children viz: William & grandson James Mumford Brazier. The William who married Jane CALVEN, could have removed with the WHARTONS to Fayette Co., Pennsylvania.

That may be why "The Other William Brashire" of Fayette Twp, does not leave many records. This may be the father of WM BRAZIER, spouse of Sarah Cox Brazier, listed in the Will of William Cox, in 1784, Spartenburg SC.

1755ish... This Redstone Colony was removed by the PENNS from New Jersey area along with HARDINS & SHIVELEYS (big clue here - Shivelys were of Dist 96 SC, later). In the mid 1750s. They then removed from Old Augusta County VA, to NC The BRASHERE who migrated with the "Redstone Colony", settling between the Monongahelia & Yohganhelia Rivers. 1750s must be the colony in Cumberland Co. NC, below. A Samuel WHARTON was with them in Fayette Co., PA and a Col. Samuel Whorton then is in the William Bratcher land transferal in Laurens Co., SC, -coincidence? The Shivelys and Swearenging families are in Dist. 96, SC at the same time.

*** REMOVAL TO OLD CUMBERLAND CO., NC ***

1751...See WILLIAM BRAZIER alia BRASUR who appeared briefly on the deed index for Cumberland County NC., with the heirs of JAMES (Mumford?) BRAZIER. Among others. Named with this colony was REBECCA BRAZIER. A Rebecca is named as the wife of a William BRASUR of Worcester CO MD. (See documented under James Brazier of Cumberland County NC)

William married Jane Calvin daughter of William Calven Sr. before 1749 in of Surry, NC. Jane was born in 1728 in Of, Surry, North Carolina.

Research by ROBERT MATHER gives his lineage, NANCY BREASHEAR, dau of
WILLIAM BREASHEAR and wife Mrs. William [Calven] Breashear.

1812...From Virkus Com, Vol 1: OTHO BRASHEARS 1793-1860 married HANNAH
COLVEN [sic] He was in the war of 1812. Which Otho is this and is this a
CALVEN connection?

1654...One John Walton & John Bagnall imported 78 souls into
Westmoreland Co., Va., among them was Fra. Calvin. (Cavaliers & Pioneers
pg 290/1). In 1672 one Peter Calvin was Wit., for John Byforest in Essex County. This is where So. Farnham Parish is and where one John Brazer made his will in 1712 [see "WL"].

William and Jane had the following children:

68 M i Richard Brashier was born on 6 Feb 1720 in St.George Parish, Baltimore, MD.

The Orphan Richard was bound to Richard Caswell in Jun 1729 and to
William Dallam Nov 1737. ["BQ#11]. Is this the Captain Richard who ended up at Fort Stevens (Jackson County Alabama), and is documented in the book Natchez Court Records by McBee ? His affiliation with Jesse and Elizabeth Prather Brashear would suggest that Richard is a descendant of the "Orphans OF" William and Elizabeth (Clayton) BEZER sic BEAZIER.
69 F ii Sarah Brashears was born on 18 Jun 1722 in St.George Parish, Baltimore, MD. She died on 26 Jan 1723 in St.George Parish, Baltimore, MD.
70 F iii Jane Brashier was born on 31 Mar 1726 in St.George Parish, Baltimore, MD.

There is a question as to whether the fourth child of William and Elizabeth (Clayton)Brashier is a Jane or a James. I am connecting him as James Mumford Brazier.

This Jane (dau of William Brashier and Jane Calvin) and husband, James MORGAN then would be of the same family
then would be of the same family from which sprung William and George Morgan, The morgans were prominent
The Morgans and Wards were both prominent in the courts of Augusta County VA, and those in North Carolina.
Jane married James Morgan about 1755 in Baltimore, Harford, MD. James was born about 1704.
71 M iv Benjamin Brashears was born in 1728 in Of St George Parish, Baltimore, Maryland.

***This is a theory connection only ***
72 M v Zachariah Brashears was born in 1730 in Of St George Parish, Baltimore, Maryland. He died after 1760/1770.
+ 73 M vi "Boshears" Joseph Burgher***
+ 74 M vii William Breashear
+ 75 M viii Matthew Brashear

65. John Brashier (1) (William Brashur or Bradshaw , William Bradshawe , William (Burcher) Bezer , Edward Burcher , Edward ) was born on 14 Jun 1699 in , Baltimore, MD. He died about 1750/1756 in , Lancaster, pA.

A John Beasor Jr?) lived on Opecken Creek - OLd in Dunmore Co., Virginia (Dunmore tax lists). This is also known as Sesqehanna Co., and later became Hampshire Co., West Virginia. The Thomas Brashear who died at Foreman's Defeat was from Hampshire Co., Virginia .(Bk - Western Frontier pg ??) All the pieces of the puzzle are in place for him to be considered as a son of John Brasier Sr. Since a Robert was named as brother of Thomas Brasier, and executor of his estate, in the Augusta Co., VA records, that could make Robert an heir of John. The old German records of Sesq. Co., give evidence that Jacob Braisier and a Henry spelled Heshear (sic?) lived in the same area . Could then Jacob Brasier be the namesake for the Jacob Brasher who went to Lawrenceburg TN with Davey Crocket. In East TN are two men Jacob & Henry Brougher ... hum, I wonder if these are desc. of old John Beasor of Dunmore Co., VA?

There is an unidentified Robert Brashear of record in Harford Co., Maryland. He may be thea descendant of John Brashear b 1699, (Orphan of William and Elizabeth Clayton Breshears) who must have remained in Maryland or PA, on the original land, it is logical to place the Robert of Maryland as heir (son or gr son) of John b 1699.

If Thomas belongs to this family, and he must, then this would be Lt. Thomas Brashears of Foremans defeat.

Question: Is Robert then the Robert of Philadelphia area, and the Robert of Old Augusta County Virginia who removed to Kentucky (See Lyman Chalkley's "Cronicles of SW PA) ?
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
!Note to Charles Brasher:...I have just been back over the records of Old Orange Co NC, trying to tie my COLLATERAL lines to a Brashears. The JAMES HOGG who was with the HENDERSON COMPANY who migrated via the TRANSYLVANIA TRAIL to KY., was from CASWELL Co NC. His brother, JOHN HOGG was my ancestor. I have wondered who the JOHN BRAISIER in the land grants with JAMES HOGG was in NC.

Note by GH: James HOGG came with the colony from West Augusta Co. PA/VA., from old Rappahannock Co., Virginia. It is logical to associate the Hoggs with the BRASHEARS sic of that area. [possibly the HICO CREEK NC colony?].

I have maintained that we must descend from a WILLIAM [Orphan of William and Elizabeth (Clayton) BEZER] however since these Brashiers, John or a brother, uncles, were of the area that later became Caswell CO. NC., maybe he or a brother is the forefather? At this point in time, I am not able to make Henry Alexander Breshears fit a time frame as descended from William b 1727, brother of Aquilla, as so many have supposed.

He fits very nicely as an "Orphan of William & Mary Clayton Brasier", viz John b 1699 or a brother.

Hi Georgene,

Your pedigree sheet piqued a couple of questions in me. Note that you have Wm Bezer (B-9966) b. c1633, and his "wife" Ann M. Mumford (9965) b~ c1635-- And what evidence do you have to link them? And what evidence to you have to link them to William B. Brashier Sr (S-9927) who d. in 1708 at age 34 (per court records of Baltimore Co, i.e. b c1674--where did you get the date, 27 Mar 1675/77?)? I've been searching for a couple of years for a documentable ancestor to William. No luck. So if you've found something, I want to see it.
The next three generations are pretty much the same as I have. Then you give John Brashier Jr (Rin 1432) a son, Henry A. Breshears (101) [This connection changed Oct 1998 to one of John's brothers possibly William, Thomas or Robert, as seen in the Lawrence Co., TN records on Jury lists as early as 1814 with John - GH].

"Ummm----What led you to make that connection? It's pretty clear that Basil, John, Henry, and Thomas (who appear to be a set of brothers) were in Spartanburg, SC, until about 1810; then they moved as a group to White Co, TN; then to Lawrence Co, TN.

[[Theory #1 ...This connection to Middleton has not been proven either. A concentrated effort by a battery of researchers have not given any validity to this connection - GH]] Charles continues ..."These look strongly to me like sons of Middleton Brashear, s/o Basil Brashears and Ann Belt, of PG Co MD and Orange/Guilford Co, NC.

But I see no evidence at all that any of the Brasher/Bradsher clan of Person/Caswell Co, NC, went to SC. Granted, I don't have all the documents on them, but the documents I copies while in Raleigh a couple of years ago, don't suggest that move. Here's what I have:

[[Note by GH: If you follow the JAMES WARD connection of SC deeds to NC to the Brazier family of the Eastern Shore of Maryland, you will see that this WARD family is in MANY of the records that William and Elizabeth Clayton Brazier appear in. JAMES WARD was one of the first to come into Orange Co., NC. The William and Sarah BRATCHER (Breshear) of Spartenburg SC have the deeds signed by JAMES & SAMUEL WARD. We need to look in dept into the WARD connections.]]

Charles: "JOHN BRASHER, of Orange/Caswell Co, NC Here's one of those cases where we have documented variants in the spelling of the family name: Bradsher, Bratcher, Bracher, Brashear, and Brasher for people who were once named Brazier or Brashier.
1753...An entry certificate, dated 14 May 1753 in Orange Co, NC, was issued to John Bracher, and a warrant for survey of a Granville Land Grant was issued to him on 27 Feb 1755: "640a above the mouth of Rushe branch on South Hico." A survey certificate to John Brachen (see William Brachen land grant of NC -must be William and Elizabeth Clayton Brashier's heir-? GH) for "140a on both sides of S Hico Creek" is dated 27 Sep 1756; the sworn chain carriers were George Lea and Cornilas Dollerhide (GH knows Bill Dollarhide. a descendant who is researching the BRADSHAW/BRAZIER connection - GH] The deed is dated 2 Aug 1760. (Abstacts of Loose Papers in the Granville Proprietary Land Office, collected and published 1987 by William D. Bennett of Raleigh, NC, pp.12, 21.)
Another version of this record shows a Granville Land Grant was award to John Brashear, Aug 2, 1760, "140a in Orange Co in Parish of St. Matthews on both sides of Hico Creek. Orig rec /s/ (mark). Wits: Jas Watson, Hugh Daffin, examined by Wm Churton and Tho Jones, surveyed 27 Sep 1756, chain carriers: George Lea, Cornilas Dollen(r)hide. Sher Haywood D, sur."(Grant #137, Bk.14, p.348, NC Archives file #392.) (ref: Margaret M. Hoffman, The Granville District of NC, 1748-1763: Abstract of Land Grants, Vol 2, 1987.)

1753...Since the entry was in May 1753, it is likely that he came into the county at about that time. During 1760 and 1761, six Granville Land Grants were made to Brashear men in Orange Co, NC. Present-day Caswell Co was then a part of Orange Co. The Grants to Jesse, Robert Samuel, Robert, and Middleton Brashear were all on Reedy Fork and Buffalo Creek, branches of Haw River in present-day Guilford Co. These men have all been identified as belonging to the Brasseur/Brashear family of Prince George's Co, MD.

NOTE: Hico Creek headwaters in present-day Caswell Co, flows NE through Person Co into VA and merges with the Dan River. John's land, though in the same parish as the other Brashears, was on the other side of the watershed and some 25 miles NE of the Brashear colony on Buffalo Creek.

[Note: GH believes this John was killed by Indians in about 1756 in Lancaster Co., PA. {insert reference of Bryan TX Libr}]. If Thomas his brother was killed in 1777, it would have left John Jr and a brother Robert to carry on the family and take care of the heirs.]
Yaaaaa ...On this Charles and Georgene agree! Charles continues "This John Brasher of Orange/Caswell looks (no proof) like John Brashier, (#12-CB) b.14 Jun 1699 (Spesutia Records, p.12), BalCo MD, s/o William B. Brashier Sr (#1-CB); he would be a month short of 54 years old at the time of entry. Didn't he and wife, Sarah ______, disappear from BalCo records c1740? His son, John Brashier Jr, b. 23 Jun 1735 BalCo, MD, is just turning 18 in 1753; so he's probably too young to have entered the land. And Thomas's John, b. 1736, is even younger. Does anyone have any documents? or even guesses?

July 1786 Caswell Co NC Court Minutes: John Bradsher exempted from paying poll Tax. If he was 60 at the time, he was b.1726; if 70, 1716; if 80, 1706. None of these seem to fit. If he was 50, he would be b. c 1735/6. That would fit John Brashier Jr, b. 23 Jun 1735 (s/o John and Sarah Brashier, and registered in St. John's Parish Register, BalCo, MD). But it seems unlikely that a 50-yr-o1d man would be exempt. If it were the old man, John (#12-CB), he would be 87; did John (#12) live that long?

We believe (no documents, only circumstances) this is (#12-CB). John Brashier Sr, b.1699.

Partially documented family of John Brasher/Brashear (#12-CB) and Sarah (#24-CB)
1. John Brasher Jr, b. 23 Jun 1735 (s/o John and Sarah Brashier, per St.
John's Parish Records, BalCo, MD
(#25-CB)
2. Martha Brasher, b. 4 Nov 1730 (d/o John and Sarah Brashier, per St.

(#27-CB)
?. ?others?
(#28-CB)
?. ?Abner Brasher, b. bef 1775.

Note, too, that the family is closely allied with the Lea family and that George Lea was a sworn chain carrier in the Granville survey.

Moses Brasher Sr, (#26-CB)) b. ?c1740-50 (calculating backwards from his first son b. 1778), d. 0 Sep 1820, and his wife, Martha (?Abner?), d. 12 Jun 1840. Their children are given in Southern Bible Records by Memory Lester and in their Wills (see below).

Children of Moses Brasher Sr. and Martha (?Abner?) (w/ spouses from Wills and marriage records):

(#31-CB) Abner Brasher, b~ 2 Sep 1778
(#32-CB) Elizabeth "Betty" Brasher, b. 20 Oct 1780; m. Reuben Walton (#33-CB)
Jesse Brasher, b. 3 Oct 1782 (end of Charles report)

*** The Orphan's of William (obviously William & Elizabeth Clayton Brashiers-Bezer),viz: William, John, Thomas and James Mumford of Baltmore Co., Maryland.***

Charles... Have you looked at the old land warrants in the book "EARLY PENNSYLVANIA LAND RECORDS" by ENGLES? They are the minutes of the Board Of Propety of the Province of PA. You need to see it. Documents the old Land Commissioner for Wm Penn., JOHN BEZER and Audry Marino's, Thomas HOLMES.
A younger Thomas Holmes then appears in CUMBERLAND CO., NC., along with WILLIAM COX and the BRAZIERS. All, of the Collateral lines are with him in PA. viz: HOGG; WISDOM; ATCHISON; HUMPHRIES; JONES; ELLIS; HARDIN; [all from my pedigree chart], also see PYLE; CLAYTON; COX and many more. I'm sending the print out from the computer of the BEZARS in the book mentioned above. All the Bezers can be traced through CHESTER CO.,PA.,and I think to BEAVER CO., PA. John Beazer was in Beaver Co., PA.

When the MASON & DIXON line was run out,the BALTIMORE MARYLAND family was split, some in MD and some in PA. My aunt HAZEL LENAGHEN SCHAFER, told me that her grandfather, ANDREW JACKSON BRESHEARS told her that the MASON DIXON LINE divided the family.

We do know "ALL" of the descendants of William & Elizabeth Clayton Breashear went to the Deep river grants in NC and from there to Old Dist 96 in SC., by 1783. A John Brashear had land in SC in 96 dist as early as 1772. (Land Plats & Maps-Mill's Atlas, 1828).

John has been elusive. However because of the tracks he left as associate of nephews William and Aquilla, heirs of Thomas, I feel Thomas Sr's brother John is who we are looking at and the heirs are those in the land deeds of Spartenburg viz: Heirs John Sr.(1) Brasher who transfered land to John Jr.(2) Brasher. John Jr.(2) Brasher being brother of Henry Alexander Breshears who moved to Lawrence Tennessee. (Land deeds of Spartenburg SC). By looking carefully at the h/h numbers with the tax lists for the South Carolina Counties I have determined the head of households with John Brasher Sr.(1).

John married Sarah Davis about 1725. Sarah was born about 1699 in Baltimore, Harford, MD.

Correction here: Sarah DAVIS was md to one Robert

John and Sarah had the following children:

  76 M i William*** Breshears.

Hypothetical family of William Brashears and Sarah _____:of Spartanburgh SC.

2. 71. Sarah Brashears, m. Joseph? Barnett. A deed of gift from William Bratcher to Sarah Barnett, proven in open court by the evidence of James Lanford and Joseph Barnett, according to law and ordered to be recorded
(Spartanburg Co Court Mintues, 1785-1799, by Brent H. Holcomb, p.277).

3. 72. daughter Brashears, m. Nathaniel Wooten
(Note: See Nathaniel Wooten of Philadelphia, PA )

4. 73. *William Brashears Jr, b. 1770 (age 80 in 1850, Spartanburg); m.
Mary Elizabeth "Marley" Clayton, b. 1770 (age 80 in 1850, Spartanburg). See
chapter on "William Brashears and Mary Elizabeth Clayton."
5. 74. daughter Brashears, m. Moses Pruett
6. 75. daughter Brashears, m. John Grist

7. 76. Henry Boshears, b. 1775-80 (26-45 in 1820, Spartanburg; Henry Boshears, b. 1770-80, (60-70 in 1840 Census, Wayne Co, TN
(000000001-00010001). About ten years younger than Basil Sr, b. c1765; John
Sr, b. 1767; Henry Sr. b. 1769; Thomas, b. bef 1774; etc. Whoooo?)
Possible s/o William and Sarah.(Or William's brother JOHN )
8. 77. *Ithra Brashears Sr, b. 1780; m. Hannah Middleton, & moved 1803-07 to Christian Co, KY, then c1812 to Crawford Co, IL. See chapter on "Ithra Brashears Sr and Hannah Middleton."
9. 78. daughter Brashears, m. John Wadkins

Sorry, Georgene, it just doesn't work to mix this William Brashears
and Sarah _____ with the William Brashears who d. 1789, Jefferson Co, VA
(later KY). I'm pretty sure that the William Brashears who d. 1789, was s/o
Benjamin Brashear Sr of Prince Georges's Co, MD; that William m. Sarah
Wallingsford and lived from 1734 to 1762 on a 40-acre plot called "Major's
Lott," on the Pautuxent River, PGCo, where a good many of his land records
are extant. It appears that this William then moved to Fayette Co, PA,
where he initially had land adjoining William Brashears (who m. Anne Ray,
and was killed by Indians in 1781), and later on Chartiers (Shirtee) Creek
in Washington Co, PA. His daughters' marriages and tax records trace him
then to Jefferson Co, VA (KY), where he died in 1789. See chapter "William
Brashears "Senior" and Sarah Wallingsford" in the up-coming book, THE FIRST
200 YEARS OF BRASHEARS IN AMERICA, which I hope to have published within a
month.
Charles Brashear
77 M ii Robert*** Brashier was born in Maryland. He died pro Tennessee.

If Thomas belongs to this family, and he must, then this would be Lt. Thomas Brashears of Foremans defeat 1777, who had a brother Robert (Chalkley).

Bef 1759 ...John Beasor lived in Dunmore Co., Virginia (Dunmore tax lists). Fredricks Co., was taken from Dunmore., VA. before 1759. This portion of Fredricks later became Hampshire Co., Virginia on the northside of the Potomac River.

The Thomas Brashear who died at Foreman's Defeat was from Hampshire Co., Virginia. (Frontier Defense on The Upper Ohio - Muster Rolls of Capt. Wm. Foreman of County of Hampshire, Volunteers) It would appear all the pieces of the puzzle are in place for Thomas to be son of John Brasier who took land first in the parent county of Dunmore. Since Robert was named as Thomas 's brother, and executor, (d-1 Oct 1777) that would make Robert an heir of John.

There is an unidentified Robert Brashear of record in Xck: PA or Maryland. In looking for the heir (s) of John BEASOR (BEZER), who was heir to the lands in PA & Maryland on the original land, it is logical to place Robert brother of Thomas as heir of John.

1764...JOHN BOSSHER, deceased, had land that was adjacent land of John Fletcher ass of R'cd Fletcher who was assigned land from Jonathan Polk in 1748.( Northern Neck Warrants -Opeckon, Fredrick County VA., 1747-1780 Vol 2).
1749/50... William COLVIN had a patent called Calvins near Opeckon, Fredricks Co., VA.
1767...Van Swearingen was living adj John BURCHAM (sic Bossher?) on drs of Back Creek, .( Northern Neck Warrants).
There was a Robert Brashear in the Augusta County records by Lyman Chalkley who went to Kentucky. Hum ...I wonder?

80 M v Thomas*** Brashears was born about 1740 in Pro, Dunmore, Virginia. He died in 1777 in near Wheeling, Augusta, Virginia.

If Thomas belongs to this family, and he must, then this would be Lt. Thomas Brashears of Foremans defeat.

Bef 1759 ...John Beasor (Father?) lived in Dunmore Co., Virginia (Dunmore tax lists). Fredricks was taken from Dunmore., VA. before 1759. This portion of Fredricks later became Hampshire Co., Virginia on the northside of the Potomac River.

The Thomas Brashear who died at Foreman's Defeat was from Hampshire Co., Virginia.(Western Frontier pg ??)) It would appear all the pieces of the puzzle are in place for Thomas to be son of John Brasier. Since Robert was named as Thomas 's brother, and executor, (1777) that would make Robert an heir of John.

There is an unidentified Robert Brashear of record in Hartford Co., Maryland. In looking for the heir of John BEASOR (BEZER), who was heir to the lands in Maryland on the original land, it is logical to place the Robert of Maryland as heir of John.

The fee was 50 shillings for every 100 acres. Terrell's Creek is a tributary of the Haw River. The Haw River flows across
the northern part of GUILIFORD CO., then bends south and more or less splits present day Alamance Co., diagonally from north-west to south-east, before flowing into CHATHAM CO NC. On the same day Thomas BRAZIER received NC land grant No. 596, For 300 Acres on the North fork of Terrel's Cr. in Chatham Co. The plot joined JOSEPH GILLAN, and required the same fee. It would have been pretty difficult for this William to have been the father
of the William Breshear born 1740 of Fauquier Co.,VA. He would have had to be married by age 13...I doubt it...GH. Soooooo-he must not be William born 1740. We must look to the other William Brazier who was on the 1800 Census as
William Breshears Sr. who had son William and Henry Breshears-right.

This connection to John Brasher is based upon the State Census for Greenville SC-1790/80. John Sr. is living in the household No. 181 and appears to be the same John Brasher who removed to Christian Co., KY, as per Georgene
Humphries and Margaret Mason's research.

These men must be the children of JOHN BRASHER SR. who removed first to Christian Co., KY, and then on into Warren/White Co., TN, before settling in Lawrenceburg. If Lawrence Brasher was married to Elizabeth Black then Henry, who Hans Black gave P/Att. for from Christian County KY, must be this Henry. This could be the HENRY BRASHEAR who received the large land grant on Big Barren River in KY. (Probably Henry Alexander Breshears?)

(This must be the father William Brasher who appeared in the 1830 list of Middle TN Pioneers below). A Henry, William and Elizabeth Beshears took land in Warren Co., TN in 1815-so are undoubtedly a desc. of William above. Elizabeth was conveyed land by William, Laban, J, and Elyjah (2) - descendants of James BREAZIER of Cumberland NC is the likely prospect but here is food for thought: These heirs match the family of WM & Sarah Horn Brazier.

(The James Bresheen sic here could be JAMES BESHEAR "Stiff Knee Jim", as indicated by Draper (The Filson Club Qtrly pg 10,544 - about 1800) as being in the territory South of the Ohio.

*** THOMAS BRASHEARS OF WARREN/WHITE COUNTY TENNESSEE-THEORY ***

Thomas Fabove) must be the Thomas who is seen with THOMAS ETHERIDGE in the early Tennessee records. He died in Warren County leaving his wife Amie
[Miller?]. A Thomas Etheridge settled in WEAKLY COUNTY TENNESSEE.
Looking for the THOMAS BRASHEAR of White Co., TN., who appears with the
rest of the clan along with HENRY ALEXANDER BRESHEARS & THO.ETHERIDGE This could be him. Thomas's wife AMIE is named in his will of Warren Co., TN. (insert). There is an Amie Miller named in her mother's will in Maury Co TN. Connection to THOMAS ? - NO PROOF.

1866...Tishomingo Co.(MS Probate records, under misc., Bk 9, pg 522):
Amelia BOSHEARS, widow of THOMAS BOSHEARS died Sep 1866. 2 minor
children Jane P. Boshears & Thomas J. BOSHEARS. The land a section,
incumbered by deed of trust & small personal property - assetts due.
Sooooo - is this the clan from Warren/White Co. TN? This is Anna Locke's research from Corinth MISS where she found her Berry and Anna BRESHEARS before removal to Arkansas (ID602).

There was a Thomas J. Brasher in Talladega Co. AL, in 1850, son of James
who had a brother Thomas Brasher - I'm wondering if there might be a
connection here - GH ? This could be James M. Brasher who went to Angelina Co., TX.

Samuel married Hannah Cox about 1787 in , Orange, North Carolina. Hannah was born about 1752 in Of, , North Carolina. She died before 1784.

The will of William Cox of Greenville gives Hannah desceased but does

James Brasher was bound first at age 5 (on next 2 Jul) and at age 6 to The Day family. In 1737 was bound to William York and wife Elizabeth until he attained age 21 (Maryland (ibid) 31:133). James Mumford Brazier who inherited in 1736, must be son of William, gr-son of William and Ann (Mumford) Brazier. Is it possible this is the James that removed to Cumberland County NC, 1751, and
left a will naming his descendants and "WILLIAM of WILLIAM", evidently his child (or his brother's?), William his father then being deceased.

JAMES BOUCHER was an Ensign in the 31st Regiment stationed at Pensecola, then Mississippi (Mississippi Provincial Archives-1763-1766. English Dominion, Letters to the Sec. of State from Robert Farmer & Gov. George Johnstone, vol

In their family bible, abt 1764-1937, the H.R. MOORE family who are
descendents of BARSHEBA BRAZIER, are living in Lauderdale Alabama. The Ch: WILLIAM; JOSEPH; JOHN; LUCY; SALLIE and ELIJAH McDOUGAL. [Another piece of the puzzle - so where does it fit?]

1789...JAMES (MUMFORD) BRAZIER: Made his will 7 Jun 1789/90 in Cumberland Co., NC. He named children : Sons William and Elijah - James son of Elijah -
William son of William - James son of William - Laban (WILLIAM OF WILLIAM) - HEIR OF WHO-HIS BROTHER WILLIAM?), and Leah (GR-CHILD), daughter of JOHN. William and Sarah Brazier (Horn), of old Surry County NC., had son Laban N. Brazier b 1769 - This according to Suzanne Barker, a descendant, address 2229 E. Vista, Phoenix, Arizona - LDS Archives GS.

I believe this is the WILLIAM BRAZIER that had a daughter who married a KEEN, who had probably come full circle, and removed back to NC., from OLD RAPPAHANOCK CO.,VA., area, [Berkley Co.,VA.?] with the WATAGUA settlers, who settled between the WATAGUA and YADKIN RIVERS in NC., in OLD SURRY COUNTY.

Since IREDELL CO., NC., and SURRY were separated from ROWAN after 1770, it is likely the family of SURRY were earlier recorded as living in ROWAN CO., NC.
