This may a relative of Anthony BRASSERE who appears in a court action with the PERRINS of Accommack Co VA. and-it may be William Brassee who is of record in Varina Parish Virginia also. The name variation in the Church & State and other records seems to be because of different recorders spelling the name as they heard it.*** ACCOMMACK COUNTY ST. 1723...Ann Meridith (Mumford) Brazier's second husband RICHARD WHARTON, a planter of Somerset Co. MD, left a "WILL" 19 Apr 1723, pro 17 Mar 1724. The executor was the grandson, James Mumford Brazier, of Richard's wife Ann Brazier- James Mumford BRAZIER, son of her first husband WILLIAM BRAZIER *** alias BRADSHAW. (There was a TWP in Fayette Co., PA., named WHORTON TWP, in the same area that William Brashere came to in 1768-thr-abts). It appears that Richard WHORTON'S stepson William Brazier, may be the very ellusive WILLIAM BREASHEAR of Fayette Co PA. The land in Fayette Co. was transfered to "WILLIAM BREASHEAR" by William Prather, father of Pricilla Prather. Now-are we crossing identity on our Brashear sic heads of households here as recorded in "TBF"?
A comment... WILLIAM GARRETT [Jr?] also appears in Chester Co. PA with William Besor. This family may be allied to WILLIAM GARRETT, the Quaker, who came first to Isle of Wight VA. In William Garrett's "WILL", in Isle of Wight VA, is mentioned a daughter Margaret (who could be wife of Giles Bashaw), Margaret lived next to Wm Brassie (BRAZIER). One daughter of Wm Garrett married into the HENRY WIGGS family. ELIZABETH WIGGS, their daughter, married FRANCIS BRESSIE the son of WILLIAM BRESSIE. It is this WILLIAM BRESSIE sic BRASSEUR who could be a descendant of THOMAS BRASHER of Isle of Wight (seen also as Thomas Bracey), eldest son (or father) of ROBERT BRASSEUR of Isle of Thanet (error?).
It is reasonable to think that the heir to the BRASSEE sic BRAZIER land in Isle of Wight VA, would have been the family who made the removal to the "Eastern Shore of MD", at the same time the GARRETTS did with the Bressie's eldest son tied to Isle of Wight as heir .
1655...WILLIAM BRACEY (Brazier?) was a witness for one HUMPHREY CLARK (in deed Bk.1, Isle of Wight VA), who died 3 Mar 1655, signing with WILLIAM BRACEY, THOMAS HOLMES*** and ALICE BOSTACK. A THOMAS HOLMES was first land commissioner for William PENN in PA. Others mentioned in the "Deed" were a son JOHN CLARK, a son who married JANE BRUNT, a relative JANE WILLIAMS - all Welshmen.
Thomas HOLMES, JN GOODWIN and JN WILLIAMS all appear in "Old Chester Co. PA, abt 1681, along with the BRASEYS/BESORS/BEZER and CLAYTONS. (see "Goodin" land conveyance in SC between Thomas Bosher & Charles Basker)
The siblings for Wm & Ann Brasur are taken from Parish birth records and land land record appears which indicate s-i-laws by the names of William Connor, William Stevens and William White-the daughter they are married to is not given. Therefore the actual daughter to spouse is not known. I have connected The "daughter" connections and feel they are actually one of the daughters "named" as a child.
I wonder if there is a connection between WILLIAM BRASIER (2?) who was brought as a headright by CAPT. JOHN EPPS, to Colonial Va. 1664 -65, to CHARLES CITY CO., [on same lists JOHN LEWIS; JOHN SMITH & WILLIAM GARRETT], and the William BEZER who arrived in Pennsylvania in 1682. It is possible WILLIAM may be the WILLIAM BURCHER (1?) or a descendant of William Burcher (Early Virginia Lists of those living) who received land in the Charles City area-first settlers. William Garrett removed to Accommack County Virginia and may have been father to Richard Garrett who married Giles Bashaw's daughter. Her brother was
WILLIAM BASHAW (2) The close proximity, on Pocomoke River, of Giles Bashaw the father, and Andrew Bashaw who settled in Worcester County MD, about 1666,(actually this was the entire east shore of the penninsula that became Delaware-eliminating this early Worcester Maryland County) on the land that was granted in 1621, to Giles BRADSHAWE, makes me think they act like the same family.
There is proof (1995), at this point, that Edward, John and William BESOR were brothers, sons of Edward BEZER SR. See the circumstances surrounding the ELIZABETH CLAYTON and ( "Wills of old Chester Co., PA). Andrew BASHAW of Pokomoke River was son-i-l of Thomas Cloughton ( Clayton). They are the same persons as the Pocomoke River Braziers.
William married Ann Meredith Mumford daughter of James Mumford and Sarah TRUITT about 1679. Ann was born about 1650 in , Accomack Co., Virginia.

His intention to marry Sarah Bezer appears in the record of Concord Monthly Meeting as follows: "At a monthly meeting held at Nicoles Nulin s. house at Concord the 9th day of the 7th month 1689.. .William Hughes Junior & Sarah Beazer Declare their intention of marriage to each other: this being the first time.. .Ordered that Jacob Chandler and James Browne inquire Concerning the Clearness & Conversation of ye said William Hughs and riturne it to ye next monthly meeting."
They were subject to rather unusual scrutiny as evidenced by the meeting
notes: "The friends ordered to inquire of their clearness, life, and conversation report to this meeting they found nothing to obstruct; and
whereas the young man heretofore has been gven to be something wild, he of
late years was become more sober, – it was proposed by friends to the young
man and woman, 1st. Whether he did beleeve it was the Truthf which wee proffesed & walked in according to our measure – further shewing that if wee did not walk in the truth according to our measure given us, wee were but a Comunity of men and women, and not a Church of Chirst: And then marriage would be as well by the Law of the Province as among us: And your comeing to us to propose your intention of fmarriage and desireing our consent, is as wee ae a Church of Christ, which we cannot b without we walke in Truth: Therefore whether thou dost beleeve That is the Truth we profes & walke in: His answe~ was Yes, He did beleeve it is. Also the young woman as asked the same She answered, Yes, I doe beleeve it is. 2dly. Whether you do beleeve that this way of marriage Among friends is According to the order of Truth: 3dly. Whether
you doe beleeve it is your duty thus to proceed: they, both Answer, Yes. f friends said as Paul to the Church of the Romans, chap. 14, 1, Him yet is
weake in the faith receive you, but not to doubtfu disputations. Whereupon friends left them to proceed According to the good order of Truth, They both having their parents Consent Thereunto.
The bride s mother manifested so much dissatisfaction with the proceedings, that her case was referred to the Quarterly Meeting, which "findes that the said monthly meeting did beae a little too hard upon the young couple".Children of SARAH BEZER and WILLIAM HEWES are:

A TESTIMONY FROM THE MONTHLY MEETING OF SALEM IN NEWJERSEY CONCERNING ZACCHEUS DUNN:
Passages marked by slashes/// are crossed out in the original ins.
This our friend had not an education among Friends, yet by taking heed to the Divine Moniter within himself, became Religiously Inclined in the way of
Truth, And went Through Divers Exercises of mind befoe he was Joyned to our Society, and in that of giving up to attend weekday meetings /for Divine Worship./ _______ but being faithfulbecame a Deligent Attender of Religious Meetings, and About the thirty Second year of his age married amongst Friends /our Esteemed Friend Deborah/ & Soon after Received a Gift in the Ministry /being therein/ in the Exercise whereof became approved / by the Said
Monthly Meeting./And after he had a family was careful to take as many of them with him to meetings as he well could and was a frugal Husband and Careful to Watch over his Children for Good, a Peaceable Neighbour, & Examplary in Conversation.
Towards the End of his Days he grew more lively in the ministry, tho but Seldom appearing theirin, and after a Long and Tedious time of
Indisposition of body (which he bore with Remarkable Patience) was on his Death bed heard to Say, 0 Merciful God Relieve me of it please thee, but I must wait. And Soon after Departed this life on the 28th day of the 6th month 1773. And was buryed the 30th of the Same, in friends burying ground in Pilesgrove aged about 77 years, (At which time /there was a Divinely favoured/ a meeting was held & divers living testimonies born) and we Doubt not is at Rest with the faithful who are gone before him out of time into Eternity.[Above is telling us that he was not a birthright Quaker and that he probably became one just prior to marrying. Published Memorial says that one of the trials he went through concerning becoming a Friend was the necessity he felt of attending week–day religious meetings – does this tell me anything about what religion he was before joining the Friends?]

WITHERS, September 12, 1713, Chichester Monthly Meeting, Chester Co., PA.Notes for XWILLIAM HEWES:
Of Chichester, mason, Member of Assemby.Had plantation on Delaware River in Marcus Hook, PA, on land he probably inherited from his father. Early maps show land owned by his wife s family, Bezer, adjoining Hewes land in Marcus Hook, PA. He either built a mansion or added on to a pre–existing structure. The house was a large, three–story brick structure with dormers and a porch the length of the front. Legend has it that above the door was carved the initials WHM, which stood for William Hewes and wife Mary. Through the years the property passed through many owners, and in 1896 was bought by a local showman named Thomas Hargreaves. He named the plantation Lindenthorpe, for the many Linden trees that grew on the land. For five years Hargreaves staged great country fairs each summer of the plantation grounds. In those days a trolley ran from Chester down along the river to Marcus Hook, and for a nickel thousands rode the trolley to the fairgrounds.
In 1901 Hargreaves sold the land to Joseph Pew, who started Sun Oil Company. The Hewes mansion served as Sun Oil s first heatquarters and was torn down in 1956.There is a Hewes St. in Marcus Hook, which either bordered or ran through the land our ancestors farmed.
Mendenhall-Newlin Alliance:
A bond was posted by Mary, his wife, for one thousand Pounds as secuit y for the settlement of his estate. Thomas Cummings and Edward Whitaker were cosigners of the bond. A second bond was filed by William Hewes on 18 July
