Descendants of Edward Burcher or Bezer Earl Of Bath

Second Generation

5. Edward Burcher (Edward ) was born about 1600 in Bishops Canning, Wiltshire, England. He died on 8 Sep 1664 in Bishops Canning, Wiltshire, England.

Marriage date of Jeane Lawrence 7 Apr 1654
After careful evaluation of the Wiltshire Co. Eng. records this researcher feels the BEZER family of old Chester Co., PA, has to descend from a child of Edward BURCHER "Earl of Bath". Note the passing down of the name FRANCIS in several generations of descendants also.

I am connecting our lineage to Edward BOURCHIER Earl of Bath, pending further investigation into this linkage. I have found a WILLIAM BREACHER (1700) and An EDWARD BURCHER, who donated Bells to a parish in Tilsbury, Wiltshire England. I think the spelling of the name might be significant here. The first Bell was donated by William Brounker (Bourchier) in 1612. (See Wilt Notes & Inquerys for Brounker lineage)

Georgene,
We are definitely descended from the same people and can legitimately call
each other cousin, but -- BUT --

We have some really serious discrepancies between your data and mine!!!

Please see what I am copying and pasting - It is taken from Family Tree Maker and begins with the earliest male and female I have in this line. My ancestry is the line whose first names are NOT preceded by an X - for example XSarah Coole is not my direct ancestor, she is collateral.
I have provided descent to the 5th generation.

As with the material you e-mailed me, there is no source documentation or "proofs" in what I am sending you.

What I propose doing is to exchanging our sources (no matter how truly poor they may be - as in some of mine which say "Jane Doe on AOL told me this"), or proofs, for the generations on either side of where we come together -- we
seem to meet at your Edward Burcher (Bezer), Sr. and your Dorothey Saint John, which is my Edward Bezer and "Jean". We need to look at Edward's parents and his children's generation, which is where our problem lies. The children are the immigrant generation, making this worse.

With v. 4 of FTM I think I can print out my sources but I will have to play with that. If I can get it to plop into e-mail I'll do that -- otherwise I will mail to you. Please see if you can print your source documentation also and get it to me.

I am fascinated by the name changes with "Bezer" - and, by the way, see a really professional and thoughtfully done genealogy which, hoping you see the same qualities in me and "mine", makes this worse -- for we can't both be "right".

Hope you are game for working on these issues - I'm a librarian by profession and that means I just hate to be inaccurate!!!

Georgene

I've only researched my WHARTONs back to 1824 so I can't be sure about a connection, but the name Richard seems to be a very popular name in the family. If you want more info let me know. If you don't hear from me before June 23, I'll be gone "searching" in OK till September 1.

Let me know.

LuAnn

I am researching Brasur (Brashear/Brazier) of Worcester Co., MD abt 1680ish. Ann (Mumford) Brazier md #2 Richard Wharton (Brazier's stepfather) and named James Mumford Brazier in the Wharton will. Do you have info on this
connection? This Wm Brazier went also by Bradshaw of ST. Martins Parish. See URL: If interested reply at email. Thanks much Georgene (VU "echos")

Hi Georgene,

-=> Quoting humphri@@northrim.net to susan perrett on 21 Jun 97 09:40:43 <=-

hu> I will try this attachment. Let me know if you receive. Just got my
hu> phone line up & repaired so should work. A Cousin ? Georgene

Yes, I received same intact.

You know I have been wondering if you have given any thought to the fact that there was more than one Earl of Bath Family??

The first one was the BOUCHIER family with John (and Cicily) being 1st Earl created in 1536.
2nd was their son John (Elizabeth Hungerford)
3rd was seconded grandson William (Elizabeth Russell) 4th was his son Edward (Dorothy St.John)
5th was the 3rd son of the 2nd Earl, Henry (Rachael Fane)

The Earldom then became extinct in 1654.

The next time the Earldom of Bath appeared was during the reign of Charles II, when a John Granville was created in 1661.
2nd was his son Charles
3rd was his son William-Henry
Then the Earldom became extinct again in 1711.

The next time the name appeared was with the Thynne Family, but this time it was only as a Marquis in 1789 which is still going.

Have you had an opportunity to see the microfilms of the "Visitations of the County of Devon". By H.S.Eland. LDS film number 873760, for the years 1531, 1564, 1620.

These Visitations for various Counties are available at the LDS and are full of imformation on pedigrees of the county families. Well worth a look.

If I can help in any other way, just give a 'holler,' Regards, Susan

Hi Georgene,

I am writing this Online, having just had a look at your Web page. One thing I did notice in the Bouchier line is that you have missed out a generation!!!!

My records show -

William Bourchier m: Allonora Lovain
their son John m: a daughter of ?Cockfall
John's son was William who married Anne Plantagenet.

I have now also found that Henry Bourchier, 2nd Earl of EWE, whose 3rd son Humphrey married Joane, niece and co-heir of Ralph, Lord Cromwell.

Humphrey then became BARON Cromwell in 1461. Humphrey died fighting at the Battle of Barnet Field in 1471 and died without issue (d.s.p.)and the Barony fell into abeyance on the decease of his wife.

Does this help clear anything up for you????!!!!

This Humphrey is not connected to the Earls of Bath, rather to the Earls of Essex.

I suppose I have completely mixed you up!!!!

As I mentioned in my other message the Visitations of County Devon would help you sort this out. So there is every reason to say that we are possibley not "Cousins"!!!!!!

I look forward to your reply.

You have made a GREAT Web Page, and I am trying to do the same with my family, but I have got "stuck" trying to do the Home Page!!!! I have a copy of the
same programme as you and have done the Gedcom bit, I just have to learn how
to connect all this up to a Home Page!!

I am going to have a day's lesson, at the end of the month.

BTW my husband and I will be in Salt Lake City at the end of October, this year. Where abouts do you live???

Bye for now,

--

Hi,

Just saw your homepage. I am a direct descendant of Elizabeth Bezer (born 21 4m 1666 in Bishops Canning, England) and William Clayton (born 11 3m 1656 in Sussex, England), as follows:
Elizabeth Bezer (1666)
Edward Clayton (1691)
Hannah Clayton (1736)
Robert Green (1766)
Robert Green (1800)
Richard Green (1836)
Clara Green (1870)
Annie Adams (1891)
Robert W. Bacher (1922)
Robert D. Bacher (1951) <-- me

We both have the parents of Elizabeth Bezer as Edward Bezer and Ann Fry, but I have Edward Bezer as being born Jan 1 1641/2, whereas you have him as being born about 1633. Neither one of us has the parents of Ann Fry. You have the parents of Edward Bezer as William (Burcher) Bezer and Sarah Coole, whereas I have them as Edward Bezer and Jeanne (last name unknown). I do not have
Edward Bezer's parents, whereas you have them as Edward Burcher and Dorothy St John.

I am very interested in your genealogy of Bezer, especially the change of name from Bezer to Burcher (and other variations). I spent a month or so on Bezer last year with a group of other people, and we never got back further than
what I have indicated. Also, I recall the name Sarah Coole, but not as the mother of the Edward Bezer who married Ann Fry (to the best of my memory at this time, she came several generations later).

If you are interested, take a look at my homepage. Compare it to yours. If your Bezer information is on the mark, I am quite interested! The url of my homepage is in the signature below.

I have circumstantial ties only at this point, to the Bourchiers family
however in doing Brashear, Bashaw, Basham, BEZER, Jones and other collaterals who came to Virginia as descendants of John and Ciciley (D'Aubeney) Bourchier (abt 1622-1623), I am convenced it has to be the same family. The Quaker spelling of "Bressie and Bezer" are distinct fomilies from Angelican spellings (Variatins of Bourchier)and French Hugeunot (Brassiur) branches of the same family. The Bezers of Wiltshire, who were with William Penn in Chester Co., PA abt 1698 seems to be our lineage.

I need some one who can get to the archives in England to sort out Edward
Bezer and Ann Fry who I have proven to and who left extensive tracks in Virginia Henrico and Isle of Wight then removed to Virginia Northern Neck before 1700. William descendant of John & Cecily had son Edward who became
Earl of Bathe and I beleive was Colonel Edward Beeker with bro John referred
to in the "Wiltshire Notes & Inquiries". This family seems to be of same
family as William Bourcher of London and Close of Sarem in Wiltshire. This family left records in Cantebury Wills listed doubly as Boucher and Butcher. There seems to be evidence they had estates in Denbigh Co., Wales.

William Bezer (sp Sarah Coole) of Bishop Canning & Rowde, Wiltshire Co, came
to PA and descendants married into the CLAYTONS of Chichester Co., ENG. Also the William JONES family of Denbigh Co., WAles, married into their
descendants and I
am descended from Edward JONES (merchant with Wm Penn), of same JONES lineage.

Since putting my lineage together to Edward BEZER, I have since found original records in SLC Gen. So., that Mr. Beveryl Fleete traced to same origin (that
of John & Cicely Bourchier). This has given me great incouragement.

I need to appologize, I gave you the wrong URL fo my webpage viz: . You may see these connections at this address.

Well, this has turned into quite a letter, however, if you can help me I sure need additional proof. I have a "Breshears Welding Links" Book which gives the documentation. Hope to hear from you again; Georgene
