It appears to Georgene that there are several children in these records going by BRASHER and we have no explanation for the reason.
If Mary Jane's children, Nathan Brashers and Alexander Brashers were living with stepfather Samuel H. Basham when they reached their majority, they may have taken their father James Brasher's surname. We than would have an explanation for the mysterious appearance of these young adults. VIZ:
Pg 255: 3 June 1850. Margaret Brashers et al, Exparte Jesse Brashers was a volunteer in the war with
Mexico and as such was entitled to 160 A. Said Jesse is now dead and a land warrent has been issued to the widow and heirs under U.S. Act of 11 Feb. 1847. Because it does no appear that said petitioners are the widow and only child of said Jesse dec. it will be necessary to sell said land 3 June 1850. Land warrent #69030 for 160 A in name of Margaret (Wright?) Brashers widow & Robert Brashers child and heir at law of Jesse dec. .....
