(Birth date on the headstone in Bolivar Missouri is 1795. It is thought John may have fuged on his birth day to
enter the war of 1812-GH)
Henry appears to be living near the Hogg families, increasing the liklihood that the John who married Neomi is
Henry's son.
I found no deed for the Hoggs and no entries other that the ones shown.
In Lawrence Co. Tenn. Marriages 1818--38 by Lawrence Co. Historical Society in 1965, p. 2 shows a Bond on 2
Mar 1831 for John Brashears and Oma Hogg with William Hughs as bondsman. it seems likely that the 1831 is an
error and should read 1821.Confirmed from Pension application & military file 1821).
(NOTE: Does anyone know who William Hughs is here? Take note: The Hews (Hughs) are kin to the Bezer & Clayton of Chester Co., PA)
These are loose bonds that had been found recently. You may want to write for a copy of the original.
There are also bonds for:
Pg.2 2 Mar. 1818. Jesse Brashears & Elizabeth Bell by Nathan Brashears bondsman
pg.10 23 Mar 1825 William May & Mary Brashears. Bd: Henry Brashears
p. 12 26 Apr. 1825. Richard Pippins Nelly Brashears Bd: Harden Payne 9 Nov 1836. License for Kinchen Pipen &
Jane Brashears. 14 Nov 1836. Thomas Montgomery, J.P.
There are other Brashears marriages but none for other children of Henry.
(See lineage charts for these dates - GH)
Lawrence Co. was formed from Hickman Co. and it is possible that deeds were registered in Hickman. However,
Hickman records have not been microfilmed (1963)and a trip would have to be made to check for the deeds. WPA
deeds to 1813 are available at the Archives but these are negative for Brashears. Many Hickman records have
been destroyed and the deeds are about the only records remaining prior to 1840. Therefore a trip to check only
the deeds would be rather expensive and it would be best to find some other way to get the deeds checked that to
make a special trip.
