My Cahill Connections
By Michael W. Caughey
My great grandmother Brigid Cahill married John Purdy. She is buried in Clones, Co. Monaghan, Ireland. I was told by Miss Betty Kelly that Brigid had red hair and had the reputation of being a good person. It seems that John and Brigid lived in Scotland for a period.
It would be nice to know how they met and where and when they married. Perhaps her family came from Co. Cavan?
Mac Cahill
(Mac Cathail. The personal name Cathal, now generally made Charles, means valour). Mainly Donegall and Cavan.
O'Cahill (O' Cathail. This is the name of several distinct septs; that of Galway is now found in Clare, Kerry and Tipperary.
