BETZINGER

I had always ASSUMED that BetSinger and BetZinger were related. After doing some research, I have to admit, that I do not believe those in U.S. are related. If we dig long enough, and deep enough, we may find we are related back in Germany. In fact, a search finds 1500 instances of BetZinger on the web, most of them in German. This leads me to conclude there are currently Germans with this name, and there is a good possibility our name should have been this when Andreas Besinger is shown arriving in the U.S. in the early 1700ís. Say all the names aloud, its easy to see why someone who could not read or write, would have interchanged the S and Z. So, Iím including this info, as a service to others who are researching the names, in hopes someone can add to it. There are still BetZingerís in New York and Michigan states. I theorize that all BetSinger, BetTSinger, BeDsinger, BeSinger, BetZinger, etc. that arrived in the U. S. from the early 1700ís to the middle of the 1800ís are related, and perhaps should be spelt BetZinger. Those arriving after the mid 1880ís DID spell their name BetZinger, as seen in census records. The people with the name currently spelt BetZinger may or may not be related to the BetSingerís.

The first instance of the name is shown in the Stambach genealogy, as seen online. Eva Stambach, daughter of Felix of Alsace, France, was married to Bartholomew Betzinger in 1717. I do not know where. No children are shown, and I can not trace this family any further.
