                     Cooley


Several cousins have worked many years on the Cooley family and have graciously shared their information with me.  Thanks to Peggy H. Cooley, Linda W. Parrish, and Larry Wood as well as all those volunteers that have extracted records and published them in Itawamba Settlers making our research a little easier. 

This symbol  represents my direct lineage.

William Allen COOLEY, a farmer and Civil War veteran, was born 22 Apr 1839, in GA.  His first marriage in 1860 was to Elizabeth JONES, who was born 01 Aug 1835,  inWinchester, Franklin, TN, (daughter of Frederick JONES and Elizabeth FOSTER).  She died 04 Dec 1887, Itawamba Co., MS, and is buried in Walton Cem, Itawamba Co., MS.  His second marriage was  07 Oct 1888, in Fulton, Itawamba, MS, Nellie C. (or G.) MORSE,  who was born in 1869.  William died 06 Nov 1900, and is buried in Walton Cem, Itawamba Co., MS.

Ten children were born to William and Elizabeth;

I.    Sarah Louella "Ella" COOLEY  b. Sep 1861, Marion Co., AL,  m. 09 Jan 1881, in Itawamba Co., MS,
Jacob Alfred "Jake" DODSON, b.  Jan 1860, AL,   Sarah died __ bef 1920 and while some family members
recall her burial location, I have not yet located it. 

II.    Thomas Allan COOLEY  b. 1863, Marion Co., AL,  He worked as Farm Laborer and his wife was  Nannie _______.

III.    Jane COOLEY  b. __ ___ 1865, Marion Co., AL. 

IV.    Warren C. COOLEY  b. 05 Feb 1867, Marion Co., AL, worked as Farm Laborer, d. 29 Nov 1913, TX, Bur: inAuburn Cem, Waxahachie, Ellis, TX.  1900 Census Ellis Co., TX listed as boarder w/ Watson WOOD, (ED #27).

V.    George Philip Gains COOLEY  b. 1868, AL, worked as Farm Laborer.    (Peggy H. Cooley in e-mail Feb 1999 stated this is her husband's great grandfather and was known as Philip Gain Cooley.  He has also been recorded as Gaines Cooley and as George P. Cooley.)

VI.    Nancy A. COOLEY  b.  1869, MS.  (Is this Annie Cooley, the sister-in-law born March 1872 and living with Jake and Louella Dodson during the 1900 census of Richmond Pct., Lee Co., MS?)

VII.    Mattie COOLEY  b.  Feb 1870, Itawamba Co., MS.

VIII.    William Howe COOLEY  b.  1870/71, MS,  d.  TX,  

IX.    Susan COOLEY  b. 1872/73, MS.

X.    John Riley "Bud" COOLEY  b. 1875, Itawamba Co., MS,  m. Etta _______, b. 1878, d. 1931, Bur: Walton Cem, Itawamba Co., MS.  John died 1929, Itawamba Co., MS, Bur: Walton Cem, Itawamba Co., MS. 

XI.    Tempie Ada COOLEY  b. 09 Feb 1878, MS, worshiped in the Methodist Church, m. 23 Nov 1892, in Mantachie, Itawamba, MS, Walter WOOD, a farmer, b. 05 Nov 1892, Mantachie, Itawamba, MS, (son of James WOOD and Malona THOMPSON), d. 19 Sep 1931, Maypearl, Ellis, TX;  Bur: Auburn Cem, Waxahachie, Ellis, TX.  Tempie died 23 May 1950, Carrollton, Dallas, TX, Bur: Auburn Cem., Waxahachie, Ellis, TX. 

One child was born to William Allen Cooley and his second wife, Nellie C. (or G.) Morse

XII.    Ceburn COOLEY  b. 29 Aug 1889, MS.
