Services for Dominic Stefani, of rural Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there. Burial will be in Union Miners Cemetery. Friends may call from in the funeral home on Wednesday from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

 

Mr. Stefani died at 6:22 p.m. Saturday, May 30, 1998, in Hitz Memorial Home, Alhambra. He was 91 years old on May 25.

 

He was born in Staunton, a son of Dominic and Madalena Rodegherio Stefani. He married Anna Slapak on August 31, 1935, in Chicago. She preceded him in death on December 19, 1991.

 

A brother, Chris Stefani, preceded him in death.

Walter Frank Fritzsche

 

Services for Walter Frank Fritzsche, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home from 6 to 9 p.m. today.

 

Mr. Fritzsche died at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday, June 24, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 80 years old on May 10, and an Army veteran of World War II.

 

He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of Paul and Mary Zimmerman Fritzsche. He married Margaret Rose Costello in Missouri. She survives.

 

Preceding him in death were brothers, Russell, Elmer and Paul Fritzsche and sisters, Esther Gerdes, Hilda Schultz, Meta Schuette, Alma Bolar and Amanda Arzig.

Thomas Svetlik Sr.

 

Services for Thomas Svetlik, Sr., of rural Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Holy Trinity Church there. Burial will be in Holy Trinity Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

 

Mr. Svetlik died at 2:53 this morning, Friday, July 31, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. He was 88 years old on October 29.

 

He was born in Livingston, a son of Thomas and Rosalie Smahay Svetlik. He married Anna Yobak on April 20, 1940, in Detroit Michigan. She died November 4, 1984.

 

Preceding him in death were a brother, John Svetlik and sisters, Rose Bodner and Anna Henbenstreit.

 

Following the services Monday a luncheon will be provided for family and friends at the church by the women of the church.

Selma Edna Schuette

 

Services for Selma Edna "Sally" Schuette, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday in Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Sunday in Becker and Son Funeral Home.

 

Mrs. Schuette died at 7:55 p.m. Thursday, July 9, 1998, in Staunton Memorial Hospital. She was 90 years old on October 3. She was a member of Zion Lutheran Church, having been baptized there on December 22, 1907 and confirmed on May 8, 1921.

 

She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Edward John and Minnie Lowenstein Marburger. She married Aaron Herman Schuette on April 27, 1935, in the Zion Lutheran Church of Mt. Olive. He died September 21, 1993.

 

Preceding her in death were brothers, Alfred and Melvin Marburger.

 

Following the services a lunch will be provided for family and friends in the Zion fellowship hall by women of the church.

Gladys Selitha Roe

 

Services for Gladys Selitha Roe, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 10 a.m. Tuesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home there. Graveside services will be held at 4 p.m. in St. Joseph's Catholic Cemetery at Ridgeway. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. today in the funeral home. Rosary will be said at 7:30 p.m.

 

Mrs. Roe died at 12:53 a.m. Sunday, July 26, 1998, in Hillsboro Hospital. She was 83 years old on May 9.

 

She was born in Ramsey, a daughter of Ernie Leroy and Lillie Mae Rhodes Cole, and attended schools there. She was first married to Lonnie Seaton. They later divorced. In 1960, she married Norbert S. Roe. He preceded her in death.

 

Preceding her in death were a daughter, Mary Lois Seaton Magee and four brothers, Victor, Claude, Vern and Reuben Cole.

Funeral Mass for Daniel Paul Rosenthal, of Mt. Olive, will be said at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Church of the Ascension there. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Rosary will be recited at 8:30 p.m.

 

Mr. Rosenthal died at 9:41 p.m. Saturday, July 18, 1998, in his home. He was 35 years old on May 8, and a Navy veteran having served from 1984 to 1987.

 

He was born in Litchfield, a son of LaVern G. and Ruth A. Hutchins Rosenthal, and attended Mt. Olive schools.

 

He married Marlene Schwab in the Church of the Ascension, Mt. Olive. She survives.

 

Following the services a lunch will be served to family and friends in the Ascension Hall by the women of the Altar and Rosary Society.

Olive, were said at 10 this morning in the Church of the Ascension there.  Burial was in Calvary Cemetery with military rites conducted by naval personnel and Mt. Olive area veterans. Becker and Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements. Following the services a lunch was served to family and friends by members of the church Altar and Rosary Society. Mr. Rosenthal, 35, died Saturday, July 18, in his home.

Mrs. Daughtry died at 1:30 a.m. Saturday, August 15, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Gillespie. She was 84 years old on October 25.

 

She was born in Beardstown, a daughter of Leo and Myrtle Dunkin. She married Parnell G. Daughtry on October 31, 1937. He preceded her in death.

 

Sister, Velma Ernst, preceded her in death.

Mildred Schimke Bayon

 

Services for Mildred Schimke Bayon, of Mt. Olive, will be held Tuesday in St. Patrick's Church at South Hadley, Mass. Burial will be in St. Jerome Cemetery at Holyoke. Service was conducted locally on Sunday at Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive.

 

Mrs. Bayon, formerly of South Hadley, died at 7:40 p.m. Friday, August 7, 1998, in Heritage Manor of Litchfield. She was 84 years old on July 8.

 

She was born in South Hadley, a daughter of Emil and Mildred Katura Scott Schimke. She married Robert M. Bayon on April 20, 1940, in Holyoke. He died January 7, 1987.

 

Preceding her in death were a sister, Helen Watson in 1985 and brothers, Charles Schimke in 1996 and Robert Schimke in 1996.

Dorothy Marie Needham

 

Services for Dorothy Marie Needham, of Lake Kaho, Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights. Friends may call from 7 to 9 p.m. today in the funeral home.

 

Mrs. Needham died at 4:50 p.m. Saturday, September 5, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 74 years old on March 5.

 

She was born in East St. Louis, a daughter of William and Marcella Knott Diercks.

 

She married Donald F. Needham in the rectory of St. Joseph's Church in East St. Louis. He survives.

Services for Dorothy Marie Needham, of Mt. Olive, were held at 11 this morning in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Burial was in Lakeview Memorial Gardens, Fairview Heights. Following the services a luncheon was served in the VFW hall by the Litchfield Amvets auxiliary. Mrs. Needham, 74, died Saturday, September 5, in St. Francis Hospital.

 

CORRECTION In the follow up obituary of Dorothy Needham in Wednesday's services there was an error. The VFW auxiliary not the Amvets auxiliary provided lunch for family and friends in the VFW hall following the services.

Margaret Dorothy Ernst

Services for Margaret Dorothy Ernst, of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday in Becker and Son Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday in the funeral home.

 

Mrs. Ernst died at 5 p.m. Sunday, September 6, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 90 years old on October 13.

 

She was a teacher in the Mt. Olive School District for many years. A member of Mt. Zion Lutheran Church, she was baptized there on December 22, 1907 and confirmed on March 25, 1923.

 

She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of Jacob L. and Janna Weerts Fuchs. She married Emil H. Ernst on June 24, 1945, in Mt. Olive. Mr. Ernst died September 2, 1980.

Mrs. Jarman died at 9:31 this morning, Friday, September 11, 1998, in her home. She was 84 years old on December 4.

 

She was married three times. Her first husband was William Kaimann. They were married in 1935 in St. Louis and he died in 1941. She then married Voicy Samuel Bush in March 1943 in St. Louis. He died June 23, 1970. Her third husband, Robert Lee Jarman, whom she married in January 1972 in Carlinville, died August 11, 1991.

 

Preceding her in death were brothers, Gino, Paul, Calso and Settemo, and a sister, Katie Johnston.

Mrs. Friesner, of Cerro Gordo, died at 1:20 p.m. Sunday, September 27, 1998, in her home. She was 81 years old on November 22.

 

She was born in Mt. Olive, a daughter of William H. and Charlotte Meyer Grosenheider. She married Walter Eugene Friesner in St. Charles, Mo. He survives.

 

Preceding her in death were a brother, Oliver Grosenheider and a sister, Lorene Grosenheider.

 

Following the services a lunch will be served to family and friends in the Zion Fellowship Hall by the women of the ELCA.

Mark Semanik

 

Funeral services for Mark Semanik, of Carlinville and formerly of Mt. Olive, are planned for 11 a.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Burial will be in Mt. Olive Cemetery. Friends may call in the funeral home on Wednesday after 9 a.m.

 

Mr. Semanik, 32, died Saturday night from injuries suffered when the bicycle he was riding was struck by a pickup truck on the Shipman blacktop in Malham Orchard. Full obituary is pending.

Services for Mark Patrick Semanik, of Carlinville, will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Burial will be in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday in the funeral home from 9 a.m. until the time of service.

 

Mr. Semanik died at 11:41 p.m. Saturday, Setpember 12, 1998, in Carlinville Hospital from injuries suffered in a traffic accident. He was 31 years old on December 18.

 

He served in the Air Force from 1985 to 1989. He atteded Mt. Olive schools and graduated from Mt. Olive High School in the class of 1984.

 

He was born in Litchfield, a son of Michael Dominick and Eleanor Mae Manning Semanik.

 

A brother, Mike Semanik, preceded him in death.

Ruby Lorene Lichtenthaler

 

Services for Ruby Lorene "Lorraine" Lichtenthaler, of Mt. Olive, were held at 2 p.m. this afternoon in Becker and Son Funeral Home there. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery.

 

Mrs. Lichtenthaler died at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in Heritage Manor of Staunton. She was 70 years on September 8. She was born in Litchfield, a daughter of Theodore and Pearl Langley Schweppe. Her first marriage, to Raymond N. Tarran, ended in divorce. She married Harry Lichtenthaler on August 3, 1973, in Edwardsville. He died March 21, 1991.

 

Preceding her in death were brothers, Theodore Schweppe and Raymond Schweppe in childhood. Following the service a lunch was served to family and friends in the Mt. Olive Veterans Hall.

Mrs. Rull died at 2:45 this morning, Thursday, October 22, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 96 years old on December 11.

 

She was born in New Douglas Township, a daughter of William Sheridan and Nellie Mae Linxwiler Prickett. She married John Berne Rull on April 2, 1923, in Taylorville. He died February 1, 1970.

 

Preceding her in death besides her parents was a step mother, Geneva O'Hara Prickett; sisters, Julia, Audry and Bessie; brother, John Edwin Prickett; half brother, Wayne Stanley Prickett; and half sister, Ada.

He was born in White City, a son of Blazo Paul and Flora Schreiter Popovich. He married Josephine Martha Myers in St. Louis. She survives.

 

Preceding him in death were a brother, Charles "Chisel" Popovich and sisters, Anna Rose Popovich and Louise DeLaurent.

Serivces for Mike LaFuria, of Coffeen, were held at 1:30 this afternoon in Becker and Son Funeral Home, Mt. Olive. Burial was in Mt. Olive City Cemetery. Following the services a lunch was provided for family and friends in the First United Methodist Church Hall by the women of the church.

 

Mr. LaFuria died at 11:15 a.m. Friday, November 6, 1998, in Montgomery Health Care Center, Taylor Springs. He was 82 years old on November 9, and an Army veteran of World War II having served as a Medic.  A son of Mike and Christina Cardaradi LaFuria. He married Roberta Osborn LaFuria in the Methodist Parsonage in Mt. Olive. She survives.

 

Preceding him in death were four brothers, Sam, Louis, Roy and Phillip LaFuria and a sister, Frances Taylor.

Mrs. Schneider died at 12:30 p.m. Thursday, November 26, 1998, in the Lutheran Convalescent Center at Webster Groves, Mo. She was 100 years old on January 25.

 

She was born in Staunton, a daughter of Edward and Ernestine Artelt, and attended White City public schools. She married Martin J. Schneider on March 2, 1915 in White City. He died May 27, 1952. Also preceding in her in death was a son, Melvin E. Schneider.

Following the services a meal was served to family and friends by the Altar and Rosary Society of the Church of the Ascension in the church hall.

 

Mr. Dudas died at 5:23 p.m. Thursday, December 24, 1998, in Litchfield Health Care Center. He was 91 years old on May 25, and an Army veteran of World War II.  He was born in Mt. Olive, a son of John and Susan McColey Dudas.  He married Frances Josephine Coleman in St. Louis and in the Holy Trinity Church of Mt. Olive. She survives.

 

Preceding him in death were five brothers, Andrew, John, Joseph, George and Frank Dudas and a sister, Mary Gavrun.

Mrs. Niehaus died this morning, Tuesday, December 22, 1998, in St. Francis Hospital. She was 61 years old on February 14.

 

She was born in Shipman, a daughter of Cecil Lockwood and Dorothy Leona Boatright Giffin, and attended the Shipman grade school. She graduated from Brighton High School.

 

In Litchfield, she married Marvin William Niehaus. He survives.

 

Preceding her in death were sisters, Shirley Bollman, Evelyn Newberry and a brother, Jack Giffin.

 

Following the services Thursday a luncheon will be held for family and friends in the basement social room of Holy Trinity Church by the women of the church.

Services for Kenneth Peter "Kenny" Pazero, Sr., of Mt. Olive, will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday in Holy Trinity Church there. Friends may call on Saturday in Becker and Son Funeral Home from 9 to 10:45 a.m. Following the services a lunch will be provided for family and friends in the church social rooms by the women of the church.

 

Mr. Pazero died at 1:03 a.m. Wednesday, December 9, 1998, in his home. He was 69 years old on November 22.

 

An Army veteran he served in the Philippines during the Korean War. He was born in Benld, a son of Joseph and Ann Janulovich Pazero.  He married Norma Topernick on October 10, 1953, in Hillsboro. She died in May 1959. He married Theresa Zippay in Mt. Olive. She survives.

 

Preceding him in death were a son, Kenneth Peter "Pete" Pazero, Jr.; his father, Joseph Pazero; and a granddaughter, Kristen Logue Wood.
